VOR Tuning
These are the four ways the FMC tunes a VOR radio:
*
Auto-tune (A)

*
Procedure (P) tune

*
Route (R) tune

*
Manual (M) tune.

The letter A shows between the frequency and the identifier for the auto-tune mode. The FMC automatically tunes to the best available VOR station.
The letter P shows between the frequency and the identifier for the procedure auto-tune mode. The FMC automatically tunes to a navaid necessary for approach or departure procedures. The approach or departure procedure is part of the FMC flight plan.
The letter R shows between the frequency and the identifier for the route auto-tune mode. The FMC automatically tunes to a navaid that is a waypoint on the FMC flight plan.
The letter M shows between the frequency and the identifier for the manual-tune mode. You can manually tune the VOR radios at any time. The manual tune procedure overrides the A, P or R auto-tune modes.
To manually tune a VOR radio, you must enter a valid VOR frequency or station identifier into the scratch pad. Then line select the frequency or the identifier into 1L to tune the left VOR, or 1R to tune the right VOR.
The VOR frequency range is 108.0 to 117.95 MHz. Frequencies in odd tenths between 108.0 to 111.95 are not valid VOR frequencies. All frequencies from 112 to 117.95 MHz are valid VOR frequencies.
After manual tuning, dashes show at 2L and 2R to let you enter a VOR course.
To enter a VOR course at 2L or 2R, do this:

*
Type a three digit number between 000 and 360 into the scratchpad

*
Enter into 2L or 2R.

To delete the VOR course at 2L or 2R do this:
*
Push the DEL key, DELETE shows in the scratchpad

*
Enter into 2L or 2R.

After you delete the VOR course, the dashes show again.
To return to the auto-tune mode, do this:
*
Push the DEL key, DELETE shows in the scratchpad

*
Enter into 1L or 1R.

The letter A, P or R shows between the frequency and the identifier at 1L or 1R.
ADF Tuning
To enter or change an ADF frequency at 3L or 3R, do this:
*
Type a three or four digit number between 190 and 1750 into the scratchpad

*
Enter into 3L or 3R.

To enter an A (ANT) or B (BFO) ADF tune mode at 3L or 3R, do this:
* Type the letter A (ANT) or B (BFO) into the scratchpad

* Enter into 3L or 3R.
To delete an A (ANT) or B (BFO), do this:
*
Push the delete key. DELETE shows in the scratchpad

*
Enter into line 3L or 3R.

The deletion causes the mode to return to ADF and no A or B shows.
You cannot use the DELETE key to delete an existing ADF frequency.
ILS Tuning
The multi-mode receivers (MMRs) are automatically tuned by the FMCFs when the destination runway is part of the active flight plan. You can also manually tune all MMRs and enter an ILS course.
If there is a destination runway entered as part of the FMC flight plan, 4L on the NAV RAD page shows this information:
*
PARK in large font if the airplane is more than 200 nm from the top of descent or less than halfway to the destination. The multi-mode receivers (MMRs) are not tuned at this time.

*
A prompt, ILS frequency, ILS course, and PARK in medium font when the airplane is less than 200 nm from the top of descent or more than halfway to the destination. The MMRs are not tuned at this time. Selection of the prompt manually tunes the MMRs to the ILS frequency that shows.

this CDU page.
Manual tuning overrides the auto-tune mode. The letter M replaces the letter A to show that the MMRs are manually tuned.
To manually tune the MMRs, do this:
*
Type an ILS frequency between 108.10 to 111.95 (odd tenths)

*
Type a course between 000 to 360 with a leading slash

*
Enter into 4L.

To return to the auto-tune mode, do this:
*
Push the DEL key, DELETE shows in the scratchpad

*
Enter into 4L.

Preselect line
The preselect line can store additional tuning data in 6L and 6R for later use. Enter in the additional tuning data into the scratchpad then line select it to the preselect line. To use this data on the preselect line, do this:
