AUTOMATIC BRAKING SYSTEM - TROUBLE SHOOTING
1.  General
A.  In trouble shooting the automatic braking system, trouble symptoms are best identified by performing an operation test of the system (Ref Automatic Braking System - Adjustment/Test). Conditions required for system operation are:
(1)
Autobrake electrical power is available.

(2)
Antiskid system is operable with no faults.

(3)
Hydraulic systems A and B are pressurized.

NOTE:  To pressurize hydraulic system A using hydraulic test stand or hydraulic system B electric motor-driven pumps the ground interconnect valve must be opened using the following steps.
(a)
Pressurize hydraulic system B (Ref 29-12-0, MP).

(b)
Set parking brake.

(c)
Move GROUND INTERCONNECT switch on P5 forward overhead panel to OPEN.

(d)
Open GND INTER VALVE circuit breaker on P6-2 panel.

(e)
Release parking brake.

(4)
Both engine throttles are in idle range.

(5)
Left and right brake pedal pressure is less than 200 psi (feet off the brakes).

(6)
AUTO SPEED BRAKE circuit breaker on P6 panel is closed.

(7)
The airplane must be in the air mode when a deceleration rate is selected.

B.  If any one of the above conditions is not met, the system will disarm. A malfunction of the system is indicated by the illumination of the AUTOBRAKE DISARM light in longer than 2.5 seconds. Isolation of the malfunction can be accomplished by using the system self-test features and the TEST switch on the front face of the antiskid module. System fault can be isolated to a specific component by proper interpretation of light behavior as described in chart.
(1)
Perform a system turn-on self-check (TOSC) for landing (airplane in air) as follows:

(a)
Depress and hold the AIR SENSE test switch on the landing gear electrical module (E3-2), and place the AUTOBRAKE selector switch on autobrake control panel to MIN position.

(b)
Verify that AUTOBRAKE DISARM light remains extinguished.

(c)
Release AIR SENSE test switch and return AUTOBRAKE selector switch to OFF position.

(2)
Place the TEST switch on front of the antiskid module to the AUTOBRAKE position while performing the following steps:

NOTE:  If any of the below steps are not accomplished within the specified time limit, the system will disarm and the test must be restarted with this step.
(a)
Place the AUTOBRAKE selector switch at MIN position.

(b)
Within 15 seconds of the above step, place the automatic speed brake handle to the ARMED position.

(c)
Within 15 seconds of the above step, place the automatic speed brake handle to DOWN (stowed) position.

(d)
Within 15 seconds of the above step, advance both throttles all the way forward.

(e)
Within 15 seconds of the above step, retard both throttles to idle stop.

(f)
After a delay of 57 seconds from step (e), verify that the AUTOBRAKE light on antiskid module and the AUTOBRAKE DISARM light on P2-2 panel are both flashing.

NOTE:  The AUTOBRAKE light and the AUTOBRAKE DISARM light are connected together in parallel. Successful test of system is indicated by both lights flashing.
(3)
Release the TEST switch. After 5 seconds, lightly depress the right brake pedal. Verify that AUTOBRAKE DISARM light illuminates steadily.

(4)
Remove antiskid module from E3-2 shelf when checking antiskid module connector pins. If the remedy as described in chart does not solve the problem, the antiskid module may be suspected as defective. Replace antiskid control shield (Ref 32-42-21, R/I) as required.

(5)
Restore airplane to normal.

(a)
Set parking brake
