SWITCHING - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
_____________________________________
1. General
_______
The ignition system is controlled by :
- the ECU
- the EIU
- ENG START panel 115VU (ENG/MASTER 1 control switch and
ENG/MODE/CRANK/NORM/ IGN/START selector switch)
- the overhead panel (selection of manual starting).
2. Description
___________
A. ENG Panel (115VU) Engine start panel is located on the center pedestal in the cockpit. It is composed of :
(1) ENG/MODE/CRANK/NORM/IGN/START selector switch This switch is common to both engines and can be placed in any of the three position CRANK, NORM, and IGN/START.
(a) CRANK position In CRANK position no ignition system is supplied but an engine dry motoring is possible.
(b) MODE/NORM position This position is selected by the pilot at the end of starting sequence. In this position the FADEC can select continuous ignition under some flight conditions (i.e. icing, EIU failure).
(c) IGN/START position
This position is selected for :
- normal starting procedure (automatic)
- alternate starting procedure (manual)
- continuous ignition after starting sequence.
(2) Two ENG/MASTER control switches
There is a MASTER control switch for each engine.
(a) With the MASTER control switch in OFF position :
- the HP fuel shut off valve is closed
- the engine is stopped This position of the MASTER control switch overrides any ECU function.

- normal operation.
(3) Two annunciator FAULT legends An amber annunciator FAULT legend dedicated to each engine is supplied by the EIU when :
- a starting failure is detected in AUTO MODE
- or a disagreement occurs between the HP fuel shut off valve and the control.
(4) Two FIRE warning lights A red warning light dedicated to each engine is supplied by the FDU (Fire Detection Unit) when a fire occurs.
B. ENG/MAN START Section of Panel 22VU It is located on the overhead panel in the cockpit. There are two pushbutton switches, one for each engine. Each pushbutton switch serves for a manual starting procedure only.

____________________________________________________________________
1. Description
___________ The ignition circuit is supplied with 115VAC - 400Hz. The ignition of the spark igniters is controlled via the ECU and EIU. The two ignition systems are independent.
- the ECU selects one or two spark igniters depending on the Flight/Ground status and the engine mode (automatic start, manual start or continuous ignition): Both spark igniters are always selected except during automatic start on ground during which only one spark igniter is selected (the same spark igniter is selected for two successive starts).
