 S 434-033 CAUTION: THE TORQUE WRENCH MUST BE SET TO THE SPECIFIED TORQUE VALUE.
_______ AN INCORRECT VALUE CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE CONNECTOR AND NO SUFFICIENT LIGHTNING PROTECTION FOR THE WIRES.
 (2)  
Tighten the bolts (2) to between 20 to 40 pound-inches.

 CAUTION:_______DO NOT TWIST OR CAUSE A BEND TO THE DETECTOR ELEMENT. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELEMENT.

 (3)  
Install the liners (8) on the detector element (9), and install the element (9) in the clamps (10).


 NOTE: Adjust the element so that it will hang over the opposite
____ end of the responder at a maximum of 1 inch.

Close the clamps (10) and lock.

Remove the protective cap and install the electrical connector.


 E.  AIRPLANES WITH GRAVINER FIRE DETECTORS; Install the detector element.

 (1)  Put one electrical connector of the detector element through the hole in the end bracket of the support tube. Tighten with a retaining nut.

 (2)  Install the detector element along the support tube. Make sure it is not too loose between the two clamps.

 (3)  
Install the liners on the detector element at the location of the mounting clamps.

Install the element with the liners in the clamps and tighten.

Install the remaining electrical connector through the hole in the end bracket of the support tube. Tighten with a retaining nut.

Make sure the resistance between the detector connector shell and the primary structure of the airplane is not more than 0.010 ohm.

Use lockwire to lock the retaining nuts on the connector.

 (8)  
Remove the protective caps from the airplane wire connectors and attach the connectors to the detector element connectors. Use new copper crush washers. Tighten the connectors to between 20 to 40 pound-inches.

 (9)  
Use lockwire to lock the airplane wire connectors to the element connectors.

 Close the APU access doors.


 F. Do a Test of the Detector Element Installation:

 (1)  Supply electrical power (AMM 24-22-00).

 (2)  On the pilot forward control stand, P9, do these steps: (a) Set the EICAS COMPUTER select switch to the AUTO position. (b) Set the EICAS display to STATUS.

 (3)  Close the circuit breakers (6 places) on the P11 panel.
