(c) Tighten the nut in the direction of the packing.
NOTE:____ Tighten the nut until the packing is tightly against
the first lower thread of the fitting.
(d) Install the fitting in the boss.
(e) Tighten the fitting until the packing touches the boss.
NOTE:____ Make sure the nut turns with the fitting. When the
packing touches the boss, the torque necessary to turn
the fitting will increase.
CAUTION:_______MAKE SURE YOU CORRECTLY ALIGN THE ELBOWS. MAKE SURE THE TUBE ENDS ARE IN THE CENTER AT THE ELBOWS . MAKE SURE THE TUBE ENDS MOVE FREELY. INCORRECTLY ALIGNED TUBES OR TUBES THAT CANNOT MOVE FREELY CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SYSTEM.
(f) Tighten the fitting 1-1/2 turns while you hold the nut stable.

(g) Turn the fitting to the correct position.
NOTE:____ Do not turn the fitting more than one turn to put it in the correct position.
(h) Hold the fitting and tighten the nut until until it touches the boss.
NOTE:____ Make sure not to go above the recommended torque value (AMM 70-23-00/201). Make sure the packing or the retainer for the packing is not pushed out between the nut and the boss.

CLAMPSHELL TYPE CLAMPS - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES
______________________________________________
1. General_______
A. This procedure gives the installation instructions for the clampshell type clamps used on the power plant pneumatic, oil, hydraulic, and fuel system tubes. No special instructions are necessary to remove the clampshell type clamps.
B. The usual clampshell clamp assembly has three parts: two clampshells which are the same and, for the applicable installation, a cushioned or an uncushioned clamp.
C. You must use the clampshell clamp assemblies with the unplated clampshells in the high vibration and high temperature (not more than 800°F [427°C]) environments to hold the fluid system tubes.
D. You must use the clampshell clamp assemblies with the cadmium plated clampshells with the aluminum tubes only. These clampshell clamp assemblies have a limit to 400°F (204°C) applications.
E. These clamp assemblies are made for long life, and to wear in the clamp and outer clampshell surfaces. If replacement is necessary, you must replace the full clamp assembly, although only one component part has worn.
