(a)
Damage to the wire can occur, if it rubs against a surface.
(b)
Vibration can also cause damage to the wire.
(2)
If the part turns, the wire will pull the opposite direction.
(a) This will keep the part tight.
(3)
If it is necessary for the wire to be loose between tension points, it will be specified in the instructions.
(4)
If it is specified, use two wires which are twisted together (double-twisted).
(5)
Use one wire in these locations:
(a)
When there is not sufficient clearance for the double-twist procedure.
(b)
When it is recommended on small or easily damaged parts.
NOTE: The one wire can only have the pattern or the group
____ of the equivalent parts.
(6)
Pull the wire tight while you twist it.
(a)
Use approximately 7-10 turns for each inch (2 3/4-4 turns for each cm).
(b)
One turn of the wire is given as follows: 1) If you turn the wire 180 degrees. 2) If the wire makes one-half of a full turn.
(c)
Make sure the wire is not twisted too much when you tighten it.
(7)
The wire must not wear on other surfaces or have tension on it.
(a) The only tension on the wire is to keep the part tight.

PUT THE HOLES IN THE CORRECT POSITION
INSTALL THE CORRECT LOCKWIRE. TO FIND THE CORRECT LOCKWIRE FOR AN ASSEMBLY, REFER TO THEENGINE PARTS CATALOG OR ILLUSTRATED PARTS CATALOG. LOCKWIRE FOR 1800`F (982`C) HAS A DARK GRAY TO BLACK COLOR.
HOLD THE HIGHER END OF THE LOCKWIRE AND BEND IT AROUND THE HEAD OF THE BOLT, THEN BELOW THE OTHER END OF THE LOCKWIRE. BE SURE THE LOCKWIRE IS TIGHT AROUND THE HEAD.
TWIST THE LOCKWIRE UNTIL THE LOCKWIRE IS ALMOST TO THE HOLE IN THE SECOND BOLT.
KEEP A LOAD ON THE LOCKWIRE, TWIST IN A CLOCKWISE DIRECTION UNTIL THE LOCKWIRE IS TIGHT. WHEN TIGHT, THE WIRE MUST HAVE 7-10 TWISTS PER INCH (2-3/4-4 TWISTS PER CM).

INSTALL THE HIGHER END OF THE LOCKWIRE, WHICH POINTS TO THE SECOND BOLT, THROUGH THE HOLE BETWEEN THE NINE AND TWELVE O'CLOCK POSITIONS. HOLD THE END OF THE LOCKWIRE WITH PLIERS AND PULL THE LOCKWIRE TIGHT.
MOVE THE OTHER END OF THE LOCKWIRE AROUND THE BOLT HEAD IN A COUNTERCLOCKWISE DIRECTION AND BELOW THE END THAT COMES FROM THE BOLT HOLE. TWIST THE LOCKWIRE IN A COUNTERCLOCKWISE DIRECTION.
HOLD THE LOCKWIRE BELOW THE TWISTED PART AND TWIST THE LOCKWIRE ENDS COUNTER-CLOCKWISE UNTIL TIGHT.
DURING THE LAST TWIST MOVEMENT OF THE PLIERS, BEND THE LOCKWIRE DOWN AND BELOW THE HEAD OF THE BOLT.
CUT OFF THE UNWANTED LOCKWIRE WITH DIAGONAL CUTTERS.

Make sure the wire does not cause worn areas.
(c)
Make sure the wire does not apply too much of a force on the parts it touches.
(8) After you install the lockwire, make sure there are no nicks, kinks, or damage to the wire.
(a)
Abrasive marks from the wire twisting pliers is permitted.
(b)
If you use pliers, make sure the edges of the pliers do not cause damage to the wire.
CAUTION:_______DO NOT TWIST THE ENDS OF THE LOCKWIRE OFF WITH PLIERS. MAKE SURE THE ENDS OF THE WIRE DO NOT FALL INTO THE ENGINE.
