FCES
Caution Light
(with MC1 Inop)
· If MC1 is inoperative, the FCES caution light is
the only indication of a FCES failure (the FCS
format is not available).
If the FCES light remains on after an FCS RESET
attempt, an actuator is still failed or one of
the following cautions did not reset: AOA, ATC
FAIL; P, R or Y CAS; FC AIR DAT, FCS, FLAP
SCHED, FLAPS OFF, HYD 5000, or NWS.
When FCS/FCES procedures complete -
6. Airspeed - Maintain below 250 KCAS.
7. Attempt to identify the malfunction.
8. Make a controllability check at safe altitude.
For landing -
6. Slow below 180 KCAS at a safe altitude.
7. LDG GEAR handle - DN
8. FLAP switch - HALF or FULL
9. GAIN switch - ORIDE (if required)
10. FCS format - SELECT VALID AOA PROBE
(if required)
11. Fly a straight-in approach (if practical)
12. Fly on-speed AOA to touchdown
(ATC is not available in GAIN ORIDE)
13. Make a precautionary short field arrestment (if
required).

· FCC A over-temperature detected.
· AHRS over-temperature detected.
The FCCs can only operate for a short time without
cooling. Placing the AV COOL switch to
EMERG provides emergency ram air cooling to
FCC A and the right TR through a dedicated ram
air scoop. If circumstances require airspeed above
325 KCAS, delay deploying the FCS ram air scoop,
as ram air temperature may actually increase FCC
heating and decrease operating time. Once deployed,
the FCS ram air scoop cannot be closed inflight.
1. Maintain airspeed below 325 KCAS (300 to 325
KCAS optimum for cooling).
2. AV COOL switch - EMERG
3. Land as soon as possible.

· LEF inoperative. (Speedbrake function disabled,
autopilot inoperative)
LEF FAILURE
LEF failures may be caused by an actuator failure
(mechanical or two channel failure) or by a
switching valve failing to switch to the backup circuit
following a HYD circuit failure. LEF actuators
continue to operate following single channel failures.
If a LEF actuator is shutdown, the failed surface
is mechanically locked in its current position.
The opposite LEF is held frozen by the FCCs except
for differential control in UA. In most cases,
the LEFs should be fairly symmetrical; however,
multiple FCS reset attempts may aggravate the
asymmetry. Additionally, in UA, aileron droop is set
to zero, and TEFs are also held fixed in their current
position. However, in PA, TEFs and aileron
droop schedule normally according to FLAP switch
position. With a LEF locked near 21° LED (± 5°),
PA handling qualities are essentially normal. If
locked above this position, stall margin may be reduced.
If AUTO is selected after HALF or FULL, the
TEFs only retract for loads alleviation (no higher
than approximately 17° TED at flap auto retract).
If fuel or range is a concern, momentary selection of
GAIN ORIDE brings the TEFs up to 4° TED and
then returns them to normal scheduling. GAIN
ORIDE also brings the operating LEF to 5° LED
and then freezes it there for the remainder of the
flight. If the LEFs were previously fixed at a more
LED position, GAIN ORIDE may drive a controllable
but undesirable LEF split. Therefore, only select
GAIN ORIDE if TEF retraction is essential or
if the LEFs are fixed near 5° LED.
