40 dB rangc should be lincnr to within iO.5 dB.
4.3.2.4.2 Mean-squarc sound pressures should be lime
averaged by integrat~on of the squared output of frequency
band filters over an ~ntegrationi nterval that should be no less
than 8 s. Alt data should be processed within the frequency
range from 45 Hz to 11 200 Hz. Data should bc corrected for
all known or predictable errors, such as deviations of system
frequency response from a flat response.
4.3.2.5 Total system
4.3.2.5.1 In addition to speclficalions for component
systems. frequency response of the combincd data acquisition
and reduction system sbould be flnt within *3 dB ovcr the
frequency range from 45 Hz to 11 200 Hz. Frequency response
gradient anywhere within this range should not cxcced 5 dB
per octave.
4.3.2.5.2 Arnplitudc resolution should he at least 1.0 dB.
Dynamic range should be a minimum of45 dB between full
scale and the rms value of the system nolse floor in the
frequcncy band with the highest nose floor. Amplitude
response should be lrncar w i t h M.5 dB over the upper 35 dB
in each frequency band.
4.3.3 Meteomlogical
The wind speed should be measured with a device having a
range of at least 0 to 28 kdh (0 to 15 kt) with an accuracy of
at lcast *2 kkmih (-L L kt). Temperature measurcmcnts should be
mndc with a device having a range of at lcast 0°C to W°C with
nn accuracy of at least +O.SDC. Relative humicbty should be
measured with a devrce having a range of O to 100 per
cent with an accuracy of at least k5 percenlsge points.
Atmospheric pressure sbould be measured with a dev~ce
having a range of at lcast ROO to 1 I00 hPa w~tha n accuracy
of at lcast C3 hPa.
4.4 Tcst procedure
4.4.1 Tesl conditions
4.4.1.1 Ambient noise measurements should be made m
sufficient number to be represenatwe for all acoustic measurement
stations. providmg comction data to apply to measured
APU noise where necessary (see 4.4.4).
4.4.1.2 Tk installed APU should mect thc noise levels

to and including thosc imposed by the electric power generator
and air-cnndrtioning units and any other associated systems at
thclr nonnal maximum continuous ground opcrrrtion power

4.4.2 Acoustical measurement locations
4.4.2.1 Except where specified Mhenvise, noise measurements
should be made with microphones at 1.6 In * 0.025 rn
(5.25 ft * 1.0 in) above the ground or surface where passengers
or servicing personnel may stand, wilh the microphone
diaphragm parallel to the ground and facing upwards.
4.4.2.2 Locations for measuring noise shwld be as follows:
a) curgo door locations: measurements should be made at
each cargo Jmr l~rr[io~wri,t lr 01t:d wll opal, whilt: d~t:

These mcasuremcnts should bc takcn at the cmtre of thc

b) pmsenger dour loca~ions: measurements should be
made at each pawnger entry door. with the door open,
on the vertical centre line of the opening, in tbe plane of
the fuselage skin;
c) servicing locdonr: measurements should be made at all
servicing positions wbere persons are normally working
dwing aircraft ground handling operations, these
positions to be determined by reference to tbe approved
aircraft operating and service manuals;
d) m ylm fiom: apprDpnate measurement positions
should br cbosxn along the sides of a reciartgle centred

distance between measurement positions should nor be
greater than 1 0 m for large aimaft. This distance may be
reduced to accommodate small aeroplanes or to fulfil
special requirements.
