5.7 - Corrected instruction on how to use the published MDA(H) when either
an approved VNAV DA(H) is not available or the use of a MDA(H) as a
decision altitude is not specifically approved.
Localizer
5.8 - Section changed to more clearly reference what missed approach criteria
is used and to remove extraneous information.
ILS Approach
5.9 - Modified ILS Flight Pattern to match the revised flight pattern that will
appear in the QRH during 2005.
Procedure Turn and Initial Approach
5.11 - Moved general information about procedure turns and initial approach
to the section titled Instrument Approaches at the beginning of this chapter.
This information applies to all approaches.
Approach
5.11 - Changed preferred descent mode for small altitude changes when
VNAV is not available from V/S to FLCH to make better use of FLCH logic.
Raw Data - (No Flight Director)
5.14 - Added clarification that raw data approaches are normally flown for
training purposes only.
AFDS Autoland Capabilities
5.15 - Clarified that all hydraulic systems must be operational to initiate a
category III autoland approach.

5.17 - Moved section titled AFDS Systems Configuration to the Low
Visibility Approaches section later in this chapter.
5.17 - Moved section titled ILS Approach/Landing Geometry to follow
AFDS Faults section later in this chapter.
Low Visibility Approaches
5.18 - Moved section titled AFDS Systems Configuration from the AFDS
Autoland Capabilities section because it discusses equipment required for
Category II and Category III low visibility approaches. Modified text for
clarity.
AFDS Faults
5.21 - Removed reference to assuming manual control of thrust for a fault
affecting the autothrottle. Faults affecting the autothrottle may require
different responses for different operators. Refer to the applicable AFM or
approved procedures for recommended action.
5.22 - Removed the recommendation to go-around for a fault affecting the
autothrottle in the Pilot Response to Approach, Landing, and Go-Around
Alerts table. Faults affecting the autothrottle may require different responses
for different operators. The applicable AFM or approved procedures should
be referenced for recommended action.
ILS Approach/Landing Geometry
5.23 - Moved this section to a more logical position following the ILS
approach discussion.
Non-Normal Operations (ILS or GLS)
5.24 - Corrected description of where rudder inputs are controlled by the
autopilots. Removed discussion about centering the rudder trim. This
information is covered in greater detail in the following section.
5.24 - Modified the note about up trim bias. The up trim bias applies to all
FCCs when LAND 2 is annunciated. For airplanes with earlier FCCs, the up
trim bias also applies when LAND 3 is annunciated.
5.26 - Added discussion about the advantages and disadvantages of not
centering the rudder trim.
Non - ILS Instrument Approaches - General
5.36 - Clarified approach features required for the use of VNAV. Explained
why VNAV should not be used for approaches without these features.
5.37 - Added an explanation of why cold temperature altitude corrections are
recommended for the VNAV approach.

Procedure Turn and Initial Approach
5.38 - Moved general information about procedure turns and initial approach
to the section titled Instrument Approaches at the beginning of this chapter.
This information applies to all approaches.
Vertical Path Construction
5.38 - Removed reference to approaches identified as circling only
approaches. These types of approaches do not appear in the FMC data base.
5.39 - Modified graphics to move the MAP (MXxx) label below the MAP
symbol. Other minor changes made to make the graphics easier to understand.
Instrument Approach Using VNAV
5.41 - Modified Instrument Approach Using VNAV Flight Pattern to match
the revised flight pattern that will appear in the QRH during 2005.
5.42 - Added reference to the RNP value being specified in the navigation
data base to the note describing when the approach RNP is displayed.
5.42 - Added new section titled Transition to an Instrument Approach using
VNAV.
Instrument Approach Using V/S
