TCAS - SELF-TEST INDICATIONS ON DISPLAYS General
You can start a self-test from the ATC/TCAS control panel or from the TCAS computer front panel test switch.
During a test, TCAS test signals go to these:
-Navigation display (ND)s
-Atitude director indicators (ADI)s
-Vertical speed indicators (VSI)s
-Front panel of the TCAS computer.
At the end of the test, a TCAS test aural goes to the flight interphone speakers.
Start Test
Place the captain and first officers EFIS control panel to expanded VOR, APP, MAP or centered MAP. Set range to 40nm. Press the traffic (TFC) switch.
On the ATC/TCAS panel place the function selector to TEST.
TCAS Self-Test Indications - ND
If the test passes, the ND shows this data:
-A cyan message, TCAS TEST -A red message, TRAFFIC -Amber TA traffic symbol at the 9:00 position, -200 feet relative
altitude with an up vertical motion arrow and 2 nm from the airplane
-White other traffic symbol at the 11:00 position, +1000 feet relative altitude with no vertical motion arrow and 3.6 nm from the airplane
-White proximate traffic symbol at the 1:00 position, +200 feet relative altitude with a down vertical motion arrow and 3.6 nm from the airplane
-Red RA traffic symbol at the 3:00 position, -1000 feet relative altitude with no vertical motion arrow and 2 nm from the airplane.
If the test fails, the message TCAS TEST FAIL replaces the TCAS TEST message and no traffic shows. TCAS and FAIL shows in amber and TEST shows in cyan.
TCAS Self-Test Indications -VSI
If the test passes, the VSIs shows the red prohibited vertical speed band from 0 to -6000 fpm. The VSIs shows the red prohibited vertical speed band from +2000 to +6000 fpm. It also shows the green fly-to vertical speed band from 0 to +300 fpm.
If the test fails, The VSIs will not show the RA red or green bands.
If the display is in the compacted mode, the ND does not show. The VSI shows the TCAS test messages when in the self-test. The TCAS message is in a box of the same color. These are the TCAS messages:
-TEST FAIL - cyan TEST and an amber FAIL display to show that TCAS did not pass the test -TCAS TEST - cyan display to show that TCAS passed the test.
