Check L and R PACK OFF
lights on.
B. After Take-Off
(1) AIR-CONDITIONING, RAM AIR
switch/light .......................................................Press out to close ram air valve.
Check RAM AIR OPEN light
off.
NOTE
A pressure bump may occur.
(2) AIR-CONDITIONING, L and R
PACK switch/lights ............................................Press in to start both air-conditioning
packs.
Check L and R PACK OFF
lights out.

1. AUXILIARY POWER UNIT
CAAI Certified Airplanes
NOTE
APU must be operating during take-off and landing, and at
altitudes below 10,000 feet AGL (Refer to Chapter 2;
LIMITATIONS – POWER PLANT).
A. External Walkaround
(1) APU exhaust ports ...............................................Check clear of any obstructions or
contaminants.
(2) APU drain ports ....................................................Check for evidence of spillage.
B. Starting the APU on Ground or in Flight – First Start of the Day
NOTE
The APU, PWR FUEL switch/light must be selected off between each
APU start. The APU, PWR FUEL switch/light should be firmly pressed
once only. If pressed twice, an immediate shutdown may occur.
(1) BATT MASTER switch .........................................Select to ON.
(2) APU Fire Detection Systems Test
Procedure.................................................... Accomplish Refer to FIRE PROTECTION
SYSTEM in this chapter.
(3) Firex Monitor System Test
Procedure.................................................... Accomplish Refer to FIRE PROTECTION
SYSTEM in this chapter.
(4) AC POWER, APU GEN switch.............................Select to OFF.
(5) BLEED AIR, APU LCV switch/light.......................Check pressed out.
(6) APU, PWR FUEL switch/light............................Press in Check STAT page – APU
gauges displayed.
NOTE
During in flight starts at high altitudes, the APU EGT may
momentarily spike into the amber temperature zone and then
immediately return to normal green values. This is normal
operation and no crew action is required.

B. Starting the APU on Ground or in Flight – First Start of the Day (Cont’d)
(7) APU, START/STOP switch/light........................Press in and check the following:
• START light on.
• 60% rpm – START light out.
NOTE
Greater than 30% rpm
within 60 seconds.
• 95% rpm + 4 seconds
(approx) – AVAIL light on.
• 100% rpm + 15 seconds
(approx) – APU GEN OFF
caution message on.
On airplanes 5301 to 5630 NOT incorporating Service Bulletin 604–49–006 or
604–49–009:
(7) APU, START/STOP switch/light........................Press in and check the following:
• START light on.
• 60% rpm – START light out.
NOTE
Maximum 60 seconds
below 60% rpm.
• 95% rpm + 4 seconds
(approx) – AVAIL light on.
• 100% rpm + 15 seconds
(approx) – APU GEN OFF
caution message on.
After APU RPM and EGT have stabilized:
(8) AC POWER, APU GEN switch................................. Set as required.
(9) BLEED AIR, APU LCV switch/light........................... Set as required.

NOTE
The APU, PWR FUEL switch/light must be selected off between each
APU start. The APU, PWR FUEL switch/light should be firmly pressed
once only. If pressed twice, an immediate shutdown may occur.
