AIR CARGO PACKAGING TO CHRISTMAS ISLAND
Your urgent attention is requested to ensure that all airfreight to Christmas Island is not
subjected to delays or extra packaging charges.
Goods not in compliance with the following will not be airlifted to Christmas Island.
Austasia Airlines will accept no liability at all for non-compliant air cargo consignments.
Please refer to the attached instructions for full details of the following points.
Austasia Airlines is not able to consider exemptions or special circumstances for any air
cargo consignments ex Singapore or Christmas Island.

PACKAGING AND MARKINGS
NO DANGEROUS GOODS
No dangerous goods can be accepted into or out of Christmas Island on any Austasia
Airlines flight. This is a condition of the provision of the aircraft to Austasia Airlines, and
must be strictly adhered to.
Dangerous goods are articles or substances that possess a significant risk to health, safety
and property when transported. Dangerous goods will not be accepted for shipment, and
if they are found to be undeclared and included with other goods, will be returned to the
shipper at the shipper's expense.
The following items constitute dangerous goods;
Explosives
Gases, flammable or otherwise.
Compressed gases or liquids
Flammable liquids
Flammable solids
Spontaneously combustible substances
Dangerous when wet substances
Oxidising substances
Organic peroxides
Toxic substances
Infectious substances
Radioactive substances
Corrosives
Magnetic materials or substances
NO LIVE ANIMALS
Carriage of most live animals may constitute a breach of the applicable laws of Christmas
Island and airline may be subjected to penalties of fines as will the shipper.
No live animals can be accepted into or out of Christmas Island on any Austasia Airlines
flight because of legislative and contract requirements.
MAXIMUM ITEM WEIGHT 150 KILOGRAMS
Specific regulations as to the maximum weight of any single item of air cargo have been
applied for carriage of air cargo to Christmas Island. The principal reason for these
regulations is the floor density loading of the aircraft in use, and the unique usage of the
aircraft into and out of Christmas Island.
To ensure that maximum passenger, crew and aircraft safety is considered, no item in
excess of 150kgs will be loaded into the Austasia Airlines flight either into or out of
Singapore.
Air Cargo up to 100 kgs must be boxed. Air cargo in excess of 100 kgs must be palletized
and boxed.
AIR CARGO MUST BE PACKAGED FOR MANUAL LOADING
The aircraft used for transporting passengers and freight to and from Christmas Island
does not have bulk loading facilities. Whilst air cargo may reach Singapore in Pallets or
containers, it is necessary to unpack goods and manually load them into the cargo holds.
This not only limits the maximum item weight on the aircraft, but introduces a
requirement that all air cargo is to be specially packaged for manual loading.
Perishable air cargo is treated in a separate section of this documentation, however non
perishable air cargo must comply with the following basic packaging requirements.
All air cargo must be packaged to ensure that there is no risk to personnel or aircraft
during loading and unloading.
Packaging must be done to ensure that the goods are protected, and that they will not
damage other air cargo.
All air cargo consignments in excess of 100kgs are to be the subject of notification to
Austasia Airlines in advance. Notification should be made by telephone to +618 9164
7984, by fax to +618 9164 7107 or by email to admin@austasiaairlines.com.
All items in excess of 100kgs must be palletized and boxed. Pallet construction is
important for carriage by air to enable the item to be loaded and offloaded into the
