OIL -DISTRIBUTION -LAST CHANCE OIL STRAINERS
Purpose
The last chance oil strainers remove particles from the oil. This prevents blockage of the oil nozzles, if the main oil filter fails.
Location
The No. 4 bearing last chance oil strainer is on the turbine exhaust case at the 7:30 position.
The No. 3 bearing last chance oil strainer is on the HPC case at the 9:00 position.
The main gearbox (MGB), accessory gearbox (AGB), and backup generator last chance oil strainer is in the fuel/oil cooler outlet manifold.
The No. 1, 1.5, 2 bearing last chance oil strainer is on the HPC case at the 9:00 position.
Training Information Point
You can use a gas or solvent degreaser to clean the metal strainers.
Examine the last chance oil strainers when contamination of the oil system occurs.

OIL -DISTRIBUTION -MAGNETIC CHIP DETECTORS
Purpose
The magnetic chip detectors collect ferrous metal particles from the engine oil.
Location
These magnetic chip detectors are on the bottom of the lubrication and scavenge pump:
*
No. 1, 1.5, and 2 bearing chip detector
*
No. 3 bearing chip detector
*
No. 4 bearing chip detector
*
Angle gearbox chip detector.
The main gearbox chip detector is on the front of the main gearbox at the 6:00 position.
The master chip detector is on top of the oil tank. You can get to this chip detector through the oil tank access door.
Physical Description
The magnetic chip detector probes are bayonet-type plugs. The chip detector housing contains a self-closing check valve. This prevents oil leakage when you remove the probe for inspection.
There is one or more O-rings on the probe. Make an inspection of the O-rings before you install the probe.

OIL -DISTRIBUTION -DEOILER AND NO. 3 BEARING COMPARTMENT BREATHER RESTRICTOR VALVE
Deoiler
The deoiler removes the scavenge oil mist from the breather air.
An impeller in the deoiler removes the oil from the breather air. The oil drains to the main gearbox sump. The air bleeds overboard.
The deoiler is on the front face of the main gearbox.
