Component Locations
These oil indicating components are on the left side of the engine:

Oil quantity transmitter is on top of the engine oil tank.

Oil pressure transmitter is on the fuel/oil cooler.

Oil filter differential pressure switch is on the front of the main oil filter housing.
*
Oil temperature sensor is on the oil tank scavenge tube at the 7:00 position.

OIL -INDICATING -OIL QUANTITY INDICATING SYSTEM
Purpose
The oil quantity transmitter measures the usable oil quantity in the engine oil tank.
Location
The oil quantity transmitter installs on the top of the oil tank.
Functional Description
The oil quantity transmitter is a float-type, magnetic reed switch unit. The AIMS supplies a low voltage dc excitation signal to the oil quantity transmitter. As the float moves up and down, the magnetic reed switches open and close. A feedback signal in proportion to the oil quantity is sent to the AIMS. The AIMS changes the signal to oil quantity.
Indication
The secondary engine display and the performance maintenance page show the oil quantity. Quarts are the units for the data.
The low oil quantity limit is 4.0 quarts (3.8 liters). When the oil level is below the limit, the letters LO show next to the oil quantity display.
The propulsion data limits maintenance page (not shown) also shows the oil quantity limit.

Training Information Point
You must add six quarts (5.7 liters) of oil to an empty oil tank before zero oil quantity shows.
You must add 30 quarts (28.4 liters) to fill a dry oil tank. You will add approximately 10 more quarts (9.5 liters) after motoring. The added oil fills the oil lines, oil components, and internal engine compartments.
When the engine is shutdown, the secondary engine display shows 24 quarts (22.7 liters). When the engine is operating, the indicated oil quantity decreases by approximately 9 quarts (8.5 liters). During cruise, the indicated oil quantity is approximately 15 quarts (14.2 liters).

OIL -INDICATING -OIL PRESSURE INDICATING SYSTEM
Purpose
The oil pressure transmitter measures the pressure of the engine oil after it flows through the fuel/oil cooler.
Location
The oil pressure transmitter attaches to the fuel/oil cooler.
