Physical Description
The oil pressure transmitter contains two LVDTs. Fan air or 2.5 bleed air cools the LVDTs.
Functional Description
Each EEC channel supplies an excitation signal to one of the LVDTs. Each LVDT sends an oil pressure signal to one of the EEC channels.
Indication
The secondary engine display and the performance page show engine oil pressure. PSI are the units for the data.
The low oil pressure redline limit is 70 psi.
The propulsion data limits maintenance page also shows the oil pressure limit.
The EICAS display shows the ENG OIL PRESS L or R caution message when the oil pressure decreases to the redline limit. An engine shutdown inhibits the message.
Training Information Point
The EEC does not monitor oil pressure during an engine start. You must manually stop the start procedure if there is low oil pressure or an oil pressure fault.

OIL -INDICATING -OIL TEMPERATURE INDICATING SYSTEM

Purpose
The oil temperature sensor measures the temperature of the scavenge oil as it flows back to the engine oil tank.
Location
The sensor attaches to the oil tank scavenge tube.
Functional Description
The oil temperature sensor contains two thermocouples. Each thermocouple sends a signal to an EEC channel.
Indication
The secondary engine display and the performance maintenance page show oil temperature in degrees C.
These are the oil temperature limits:

High red line -177 C

*
High amber -163 C

*
Low amber -50 C.

The propulsion data limits maintenance page also shows the oil temperature limits (not shown).
When the oil temperature goes into the amber band, the advisory message ENG OIL TEMP L or ENG OIL TEMP R shows.

OIL -INDICATING -OIL FILTER BYPASS WARNING SYSTEM

Purpose
The oil filter differential pressure switch monitors the condition of the primary filter element in the main oil filter.
Location
The switch is on the front of the main oil filter housing.
Functional Description
The oil filter differential pressure switch gets oil pressure inputs before and after the oil flows through the primary filter element. If the differential pressure is too high, the switch sends a signal to the EEC.
Indication
The status display shows the ENG OIL FILT L(R) status message. This occurs when the main oil filter pressure relief valve opens to let oil flow directly to the secondary filter element.
