Engine Oil Servicing (Pressure Fill)
The pressure fill connector is smaller than the overflow drain connector.
WARNING: YOU MUST CONNECT THE DRAIN HOSE TO THE OVERFLOW DRAIN CONNECTOR BEFORE YOU CONNECT THE PRESSURE FILL HOSE. MAKE THE DRAIN HOSE HANG STRAIGHT DOWN. MAKE SURE THE DRAIN HOSE IS ABOVE AND NOT INTO THE FLUID IN THE CONTAINER. WHEN YOU CONNECT THE PRESSURE FILL HOSE, THE DRAIN CONNECTOR OPENS AUTOMATICALLY AND RELEASES THE PRESSURE FROM THE OIL SYSTEM. WHEN YOU RELEASE THE PRESSURE, ENGINE OIL AND AIR CAN COME OUT OF THE OVERFLOW CONNECTOR. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, INJURY CAN OCCUR.
Fill the engine oil tank until the engine oil comes out of the drain hose. The oil fill pressure connector has a restrictor to keep the pressure fill flow rate less than the flow rate of the gravity drain. This will not let you add too much engine oil in the system.

OIL -DISTRIBUTION -GENERAL DESCRIPTION

General
The distribution system moves lubricating oil to engine bearings and drive gears. It also moves oil to storage and bleeds system breather air.
Distribution
The distribution system has these parts:

Pressure

*
Scavenge

*
Breather.


Oil flows from the engine oil tank to the lubrication and scavenge oil pump. The lubrication pump does not control the oil output pressure. When the engine speed changes, the oil pressure changes.
The pressurized oil flows through the main oil filter. The oil filter differential pressure switch monitors the condition of the filter. Next, the oil flows through the servo fuel heater, engine air/oil heat exchanger, and fuel/oil cooler.
As the oil cools it heats the fuel. The fuel/oil cooler is the primary source of oil cooling. The engine air/oil heat exchanger and valve operate when necessary. The EEC controls the fuel/ oil cooler bypass valve and the engine air/oil heat exchanger valve to control fuel temperature.
If the main oil filter fails, the last chance oil strainers prevent blockage of the oil nozzles.
The lubrication and scavenge oil pump has five scavenge pumps that remove oil and contaminants from the bearing compartments and gearboxes. The scavenge oil returns to the engine oil tank.
The deoiler removes oil mist from the breather air. The oil goes to the main gearbox sump and the air bleeds overboard.
