ACARS BITE - DATALINK MANAGER General
The DATALINK MANAGER supplies the capability for the user to perform subnetwork link tests, and supplies access to the VHF REQ SEL and DATA REGIONS displays. The display is accessible only when the HGI table and APM are valid. From the SYSTEM MENU page select DATALINK MGR> (LSK 2R).
VHF TEST
Selecting VHF TEST (LSK 4L) causes a VHF link test to be performed. The status of the link test is displayed in the header line. When the VHF link test is in the sending state, pressing the LSK again will not initiate another link test until the status of the of the first link test is known. In addition, if FAILED is displayed in the header another link test cannot be initiated with the LSK. In this instance, the VHF radio, or the link to the VHF radio is failed and the CMU cannot initiate a VHF link test.
VHF FREQ SEL
The VHF FREQ SEL (LSK 2R) display annunciates the candidate frequencies in the current region and supplies the crew with the capability to manually tune the active data frequency. When there are more than eight candidate frequencies in the current region, a second page of the VHF FREQ display will be used. The <SEL> indication is adjacent to the frequency that is currently being used by the CMU for VHF data link communication.
When the Allow Selection of VHF Base Frequencies AMI Attribute is enabled, an asterisk is displayed in the outermost column, indicating that selection of a candidate frequency is allowable. If this AMI Attribute is not enabled, an asterisk will not be displayed and selection of frequencies is not allowed.

Line 5R displays SECONDARY. This allows the crew to manually enter a valid 25 Khz VHF frequency. The crew would enter the frequency in the scratch pad and then press LSK 5R. The VHF radio would be commanded to tune to the selected frequency by the CMU.
DATA REGIONS
The DATA REGIONS display gives information defining the geographical region the aircraft is currently in with regards to preferred channel selection logic. The crew has the ability to override the automatic selection of a region if the AMI table allows it. The default region for Southwest Airlines will be the N America.
Line 5R will display RETURN TO AUTO when the automatic selection of regions has been overridden by manual selection. When AUTO is selected with LSK 5R the default region will become active again.

WHEN THE VHF TEST IS RUN AND THE CMU IS IN A NO COMM CONDITION, VERIFY THE FREQUENCY OF 131.55 IS SELECTED AND THE CMU IS USING THE DEFAULT DATA REGION.
