General
The APM is a self-contained memory device, which is read upon startup of the CMU. As a minimum, aircraft registration, aircraft type, and equipment configuration information is held in the APM.
The APM replaces the need for LRU option pins. When the CMU is replaced the APM remains installed in the aircraft. Once a new CMU is installed, the new CMU will use the data stored in the APM to initialize itself to the correct interface configuration.
If the APM is replaced, it has to be programed with aircraft specific information. This is accomplished utilizing the MCDU and ACARS Maintenance BITE pages.
NOTE: If no data is programmed in the APM the CMU PROGRAM
APM page will be displayed when the <ACARS prompt is
selected on the MCDU.

VHF COMMUNICATION SYSTEM -VDR TRANSCEIVER 3 (ACARS ONLY)

Purpose

The purpose of the VHF transceiver is to transmit and receive
information.
Physical Description
The transceiver is a solid state device. It has these components:

-Power supply
-Frequency synthesizer
-Receiver
-Modulator
-Transmitter
-Microprocessor.

Functional Description The transceiver has these properties: -118.000 to 136.975 MHz frequency range -25 kHz frequency spacing -Voice or data operation -25 watts output power
-Built-in fault detection and memory. Power The transceiver operates with +27.5v dc. Controls, Indicators, and BITE The liquid crystal display (LCD) shows this data:
-Part number/software identification
-Unit status
-Discrete/ARINC input status
-Results of BITE tests
-Maintenance help pages
-Shop maintenance data
-Software loading status
-Airline unique maintenance messages.

Push one of the two maintenance switches to start the BITE tests. Each screen display gives information to help the operator with maintenance procedures.
The transceiver front panel has a flash memory access. The operator puts a credit card sized flash memory card in this access. This lets them upload or download data to the transceiver memory. The memory has a 20 megabyte capacity. These are the two transceiver flash memory cards:
-Read only
-Read/write.

Microphone and Headphone Jacks
Microphone (mic) and headphone (phone) jacks give connection points for mic and phone use.
