A passenger-to-attendant call or lavatory call makes a master call light come on. The configuration database specifies which master call lights come on in an area.
Row and Lavatory Call Light Assignments
The database specifies the relation of the attendant call button on each passenger control unit and the adjacent row call light on a passenger service unit.
The database also specifies which lavatory call light comes on when a passenger makes a call from a lavatory.
Reading Light Assignments
When a passenger pushes a reading light switch on the passenger control unit (PCU), a reading light comes on. The configuration database specifies which reading light comes on or goes off.
Chime Mute Areas
The configuration database specifies the chime mute areas for cabin control panels (CCPs).
Passenger Information Sign Control
The database specifies the conditions that control all of the passenger information signs.
Panels for PSS On/Off Control
The configuration database specifies which control panels can turn the passenger service system on and off.
OEU Configuration
The database specifies how many OEUs are in each column. It also tells which components connect to each OEU.

PSS -ZONE MANAGEMENT UNIT -FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

General
The zone management units (ZMUs) make master call lights come on and go off. The ZMUs use the configuration database to control data to and from these units:
*
A cabin area control panel (CACP) -10 base T data

*
All in-flight entertainment (IFE) system components in a zone -EIA-485 data

*
All OEUs in a zone -EIA-485 data.

Discretes
Each ZMU can control as many as 20 PSS master call lights. The location of the ZMU and the configuration database specifies which master call lights a ZMU controls. The ZMU uses 28v dc from the right main bus to turn on the lights.
Intersystem Bus
The ZMU uses a 10 base 2 bus interface to get no smoking and fasten seat belt on/off signals from the intersystem (I/S) bus. The cabin system management unit (CSMU) sends the ZMU configuration database and operational software data on this bus when necessary. A jumper wire in the connector to ZMU 3 terminates the intersystem bus.
The ZMU also uses the I/S bus to send signals to the passenger address system for chimes.

Panel Bus
Each ZMU has a 10 base T bus interface for a cabin control panel (CCP). Attendants use the CCP to control these PSS functions:

Smoking areas

Chime cutoff areas

*
Passenger reading lights

*
Lavatory inoperative signs

*
PSS on/off.

The ZMU sends active passenger-to-attendant calls and lavatory waste tank status to the CCP.
EIA-485 Bus Data
Each ZMU has an EIA-485 bus interface for each column of OEUs.
The IFE system sends passenger-to-attendant call and reading light on/off selections to the ZMU.
The ZMU sends data to the OEUs to control:

Attendant call and reading lights

*
Lavatory information signs

*
Passenger information signs.

The ZMU gets lavatory data from OEUs on the lavatory modules.

Token Interfaces
When you install software, the ZMUs send a token signal to an OEU. This signal enables units to accept the software installation data on the data bus.
The OEUs get the signal from a token interface in the ZMU.

PSS -OVERHEAD ELECTRONICS UNIT -FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

General
The overhead electronics units (OEUs) send data to and get data from an EIA-485 data bus. The zone management unit (ZMU) transmits and receives data from all OEUs in a zone.
The OEUs send discretes to and get discretes from these units:
