 E.  On some airplanes, vortex generator assemblies are installed on the aft fuselage. The vortex generator assemblies are located above the horizontal stabilizer on the left and right sides of the fuselage. The function of the vortex generators is to make airflow better.

 STABILIZER TO BODY FRONT SPAR SLIDING SEAL - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

 1.  General_______
 A.  This procedure contains two tasks:
 (1)  
The removal of the stabilizer-to-body front spar sliding seal.

 (2)  
The installation of the stabilizer-to-body front spar sliding seal (referred to as the sliding seal).


 B.  The sliding seal closes the opening where the attach fitting of the forward stabilizer moves. You can do the approved repair of the seal when you remove the seal plates and apply a layer of the teflon finish of the abrasion resistant (AMM 51-21-81/701).

Remove the center track strips (Fig. 401).

Remove the upper and lower clearance panels on the stabilizer.


 NOTE:____Panels 9119 and 9112 are on the left side. Panels 9219 and 9220 are on the right side. For better access, you can remove the bullnose fairing of the leading edge (panels 9117 and 9217) (AMM 12-31-81/201).
 D.  Sliding Seal Plates Removal (Fig. 401)

 (1)  To remove the lower seal plate, move the stabilizer to the full up position.
