 A. General
 (1)  Refer to the Airplane Recovery Document D6-40146 to lift an airplane that has damage.

 TILT AIRPLANE FOR TAIL CLEARANCE - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES

 1.  General_______
 A.  This procedure has these tasks:
 (1)  
Tilt the Airplane for the Tail Clearance

 (2)  
Balance Check for the Tilt Airplane

 (3)  
Tow the Tilted Airplane

 (4)  
Lower the Airplane Nose


 B.  You can lift the airplane nose with the dolly (Fig. 201) to lower the airplanes tail for clearance in the hangar or storage area.
 C.  You must add ballast when the total moment of the airplane about the main gear axle is not more than +1000 (See Fig. 211 and Fig. 213). This will keep the airplane stable when you lift the airplane nose.
 D.  You can use a nose gear ramp to permit the vertical fin to go through the hangar door.

 C.  Prepare to Lift the Airplane
 S 652-005
 (1)  Defuel the airplane to a maximum of 18,000 lbs of fuel remaining within the limits shown in figure 206, and with no more than 6000 lbs of fuel in any one of the fuel tanks (AMM 28-23-00/201).

 (2)  S 682-006Drain the portable water and waste water tanks (AMM 12-14-00/301 and 38-11-00/301).
 (3)  S 162-007If there is snow or ice on the empennage, make sure to remove the unwanted material.
 (4)  S 682-009Inflate the nose shock strut (AMM 12-15-41/301). (a) Hold the shock strut with the nylon strap, the rope, the sling (or applicable equipment) to keep the Dimension X (Fig. 203) to 23 inches maximum. (b) Inflate the shock strut. (c) Make sure Dimension "X" is not more than 23 inches.
 (5)  S 682-010Inflate the shock struts on the main gear (AMM 12-15-31/301). (a) Make sure the extension on the shock struts is 1-1/2 |1/8 inches.
