Mark Vellacott, Managing Director
Mr. Vellacott has an impressive track record in the aerospace industry. He brings a high level of expertise and skills to SMS.
Previously, Mr. Vellacott served as the Technical Director for the Asia Pacific Space Centre project, Sydney.
He has worked with British Aerospace for 21 years, and subsequently, BAE Systems in the areas of military aircraft and
corporate development. Mr. Vellacott was the head of engineering technology at BAE Systems Australia, wherein he was
responsible for managing the company’s technology acquisition programs including the operation of the Technology Board. In
addition, during his tenure at BAE Systems, he was Chairman of the Board and President of the Electronic Industry Association.
He also served on a number of technology based advisory boards. Mr. Vellacott was elected as a Fellow of the Royal
Aeronautical Society in 2001, and is a chartered engineer. He holds a BSc in Aeronautical Engineering, an MSc in Systems
Engineering and a Masters of Business Administration.
Air Marshal Sir John Walker, Non-executive Chairman
Sir John Walker is a former Air Marshal having an enriched 41 years of experience with the Royal Air Force in the UK prior to
his retirement. He has also served as the Chief of Defense Intelligence and Deputy Chairman of the National Joint Intelligence
Committee. Sir John was appointed as the Knight Commander of the Bath early in 1992 and was selected a Fellow of the Royal
Aeronautical Society later that year. In the recent past, he served as a Special Advisor to the House of Commons Defense
Committee. Sir John has also authored three books and has written for the technical press specializing in air power, command
and leadership. He empowers SMS with his expertise in the development of CVMTM technology for military applications.
Malcolm R Richmond, Non-executive Director
Professor Richmond is a professorial fellow at the business school at the University of Western Australia and at the faculty of
engineering, computing and mathematics. His special interests include corporate strategy, technology management,
entrepreneurship, and innovation & commercialization of research and development.
Prior to joining SMS, Professor Richmond has worked with Rio Tinto and CRA Groups for 30 years. He held the positions of
Managing Director (R&D) and Vice-President (Strategy and Acquisitions). He has also served as Managing Director at
Hamersley Iron Pty Limited, Deputy Chairman of the Australian Minerals Industry Research Council, Vice-President of the
WA Chamber of Minerals and Energy, and Non-executive Director of Amdel Limited and Hismelt Corporation (the singlelargest
research project in Australia). Currently, Professor Richmond is a Non-executive Director of Magnesium International
Ltd, and Safe Effect Pty Ltd. He is also a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technology, Science and Engineering.
Robin John Dean, Non-executive Director
Mr. Dean has extensive experience in management, corporate and investment banking. He has served as the Project Finance
Head at Bankwest from 1989–95. In addition, Mr. Dean was the Chief Executive of St Barbara Mines from 1995–97. Prior to
joining SMS, he also held corporate finance positions with Westchester Corporate Finance and Westpac Banking Corporation.
He holds a Bachelor of Economics degree from University of Western Australia, Perth.
Rosalind V Dubs, Non-executive Director
Dr. Dubs has substantial commercial and international experience with regard to both private and public sector companies.
With more than 16 years of experience, Dr. Dubs has managed large engineering organizations. She has served as Vice-
President, Operations, at a world-leading air traffic management company. Most recently, Dr. Dubs served as Director,
Electronic Systems, at ADI Limited, a joint venture company in Thales. She has also served at senior executive positions in Air
Services Australia, the Civil Aviation Authority and CSIRO. Currently, Dr Dubs is Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External
Relations) of the University of Technology, Sydney, responsible for driving external engagement with business, industry and
government.
