6.4.2. Threshold Lights.
The threshold lights are placed across the runway between the
edge lights at a uniform interval of not more than 3 m.
They are located at not more than 3 m. before the beginning
of runway. In case of displaced threshold they are at the
threshold.
The colour of threshold lights is GREEN.
6.4.3. Runway End Lights.
They are six or more lights placed in a line across the runway
at not more than 3 m. beyond the runway end.
They are RED in colour.
The lights are placed either symmetrically about the centre in
two groups or are at uniform interval between runway edge
lights.
6.4.4. Runway Centre Line Lights.
They are placed along runway centre line at a uniform interval
of 7.5 m. or 15 m. or 30 m.
They are of variable WHITE colour upto 900 m. before the
runway end.
Thereafter they are alternately WHITE and RED upto 300 m.
before the runway end.
For the last 300 m. of runway they are all RED in colour.
This pattern for the last 900m of runway centre line lights can
be very useful for distance to go indication during landing
roll/reject take-off in low visibility condition. However when
runway length is less than 1800 m., the white lights extend to
first half of the runway length.
6.4.5. Touchdown Zone Lights.
They comprise a pattern formed by pairs of barrettes symmetrically located about the runway centre line extending from threshold along the runway for a distance of 900 m. but not beyond the middle of the runway. The spacing recommended between pairs of barrettes is 30 m., but can be 60 m. Each barrette is of 3 to 4.5 m. length having at least three lights. The lights are variable WHITE in colour.
6.4.6. Stop way Lights.
Stop ways, where provided, are delineated by RED coloured lights. The lights on either side of stop ways are in line with runway edge lights.
6.4.7. Approach Lights.
The last 300 m. of approach lights for CAT-II/III Ops. are a pattern of centre line barrettes, side row barrettes and two cross bars – one at 150 m. and the other at 300 m. from threshold. The centre line barrettes are 4 m. of length having lights of variable WHITE colour.
The side row barrettes are RED in colour and of same length as touchdown zone barrettes and are placed in line with the touchdown zone barrettes on either side of centre line. The rows each consisting a centre line barrette and a pair of side row barrettes are spaced at 30 m interval starting from the threshold to 270 m from the threshold. At 150 m. from threshold a short cross bar fills the gap between the two RED side row barrettes with WHITE lights. At 300 m. from threshold the cross bar extends to 15 m. either side of centre line and comprises all white lights. At RA 150 ft. the full white cross bar (at 300 m. to threshold) would appear ahead of nose and soon would disappear under the aircraft.
