ADVERSE WEATHER

GENERAL
Applicable to: ALL
Adverse weather operations take into account the following aspects:
? Cold weather operations and icing conditions
? Turbulence
? Windshear
? Volcanic ash.
COLD WEATHER OPERATIONS AND ICING CONDITIONS
Applicable to: ALL
PREFACE
Aircraft performance is certified on the basis of a clean wing. Ice accretion affects wing
performance. When the wing is clean, the airflow smoothly follows the shape of the wing. When the wing is covered with ice, the airflow separates from the wing when the Angle-Of-Attack (AOA) increases. Therefore, the maximum lift-coefficient is reduced. As a result, the aircraft may stall at a lower AOA, and the drag may increase.
