*
Move the applicable electronic engine control (EEC) maintenance switch to the TEST position. This switch lets power go to the EEC.
*
Move the reverse thrust levers to the interlock (reverse idle) position.
* To extend the sleeve, push and hold the thrust reverser test enable switch. This switch lets the EEC open the isolation valve when the engine is not running (N2 is zero).
When the thrust reverser sleeve is in the fully extended position, you must deactivate the isolation valve before you do maintenance.
Retraction
You must use two people to retract the thrust reverser sleeves. This is an overview of the procedure:
*
Activate the isolation valve.
*
The first person will push and hold the thrust reverser test enable switch.
*
The second person in the flight deck will move the reverse thrust levers to the forward idle position.
*
The first person will push and hold the test enable switch until the sleeves are fully retracted and the sync locks engage correctly. Hold the test enable switch for 15 to 19 seconds after the sleeves have fully retracted to prevent EICAS and CMC messages.

TRAS -THRUST REVERSER DEACTIVATION
General
There are two kinds of thrust reverser deactivation:
*
Thrust reverser deactivation for ground maintenance.
*
Thrust reverser deactivation for flight dispatch.
WARNING: DO ALL OF THE SPECIFIED TASKS IN THE CORRECT SEQUENCE TO DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
Thrust Reverser Deactivation for Ground Maintenance
Thrust reverser deactivation for ground maintenance stops hydraulic power to the thrust reverser actuation system (TRAS).
Do not use this procedure for flight dispatch because the thrust reverser sleeves are not mechanically locked in the retracted position and can extend in flight.
The procedure is summarized as follows:
*
In the flight compartment, open the applicable thrust reverser control circuit breaker and install a collar to remove electrical power to the isolation valve.
*
There are two lock pins in the deactivation pin container. The container is in the aft strut, below and forward of the isolation valve. Both lock pins are tethered with a cable to the container. One of the cables has a red streamer which is used to show ground maintenance.
