There are six latch beam tension latches that hold the thrust reverser halves together on the bottom of the thrust reverser. The no.1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 tension latches are interchangeable.
The forward tension latch is aft of the v-band latch on the torque box. There is an safety handle/latch open indicator on the forward tension latch that extends below the surface of the thrust reverser to show the latch is in the open position. You must depress the safety handle to extend the indicator and disengage a pin from the latch before you can open the forward tension latch. The open latch keeps the indicator in the extended position until you close the latch.

Five additional latch beam tension latches are on the bottom of the thrust reverser. You get access to these latches through three latch beam access doors.
These tension latches have adjustable hooks that engage latch bolts in the opposite latch beam. Use an allen wrench to adjust the hook adjustment bushing. There is a secondary lock in the latch handle; push the lock to open the latch handle to release the latch hook load. The latch handles have a small handle for your fingers to pull the latch handle open. The force to close these tension latches is approximately 50 pounds (222 newtons). Movement of the latch handle to the closed position will over-center lock the latch and apply the latch hook load. The secondary lock will lock the latch handle to the hook.
Training Information Point
Chapter 78 tells you how to open and close the thrust reverser halves.
WARNING: DO THE DEACTIVATION PROCEDURE TO PREVENT THE OPERATION OF THE THRUST REVERSER. THE ACCIDENTAL OPERATION OF THE THRUST REVERSER CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONNEL AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT
CAUTION: FAILURE TO OPEN THE LOAD SHARE LATCHES AND THE AFT COWL HOOP TIE LATCHES BEFORE YOU OPEN THE THRUST REVERSER CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE THRUST REVERSER.

THRUST REVERSER SYSTEM -TENSION LATCHES
When you open the thrust reverser, open the tension latches in this order:
*
Open the load share latches first. You must disengage the latch hook from the strap eyebolt. Failure to open the load share latches and disengage the latch hooks before you open the thrust reverser can cause damage to the thrust reverser. Both load share latches must be disengaged if the left or right thrust reverser half is opened.
*
Open the hoop tie latches. You must disengage the latch hook from the strap eyebolt. Failure to open the hoop tie latches and disengage the latch hooks before you open the thrust reverser can cause damage to the support rod and the two strut brackets that hold the rod. Both hoop tie latches must be disengaged if the left or right thrust reverser half is opened or damage to the strut support rod will occur.
