AIR CONDITIONING -SUPPLEMENTAL HEATING -DOOR AREA HEATERS
Purpose
Door area heaters add heat around the sides of each passenger door.
General Description
One electric heater is above the ceiling near each of these doors.
*
Door 1 heaters are aft of the doors, above the first outboard ceiling panel
*
Door 2 and 3 heaters are above the outboard ceiling panel that is next to the related door
*
Door 4 heaters are forward of the doors, above the last
outboard ceiling panel.
Door 2 heaters get air from the ducts that carry air from the forward recirculation fan. Door 3 heaters get air from the ducts that carry air from the aft recirculation fan. Doors 1 and 4 heaters get air from the ducts that carry conditioned air.

AIR CONDITIONING -SUPPLEMENTAL HEATING -GALLEY HEATERS
Purpose
Galley heaters add heat to the conditioned air that goes to these galleys:
*
Forward galley area
*
Aft galley area.
Location
Galley heaters are in-line with conditioned air ducts that give air to the galleys. The heaters are at these locations:
*
Forward galley area, one heater above the overdoor panel at door 1 right
*
Aft galley area, two heaters above the ceiling of the aft galley.
The galleys that have a heater also have a heater control. The control lets the cabin attendants set the quantity of heat from the heater.
Physical Description
The galley heater is an electrical unit that uses 3 phase, 115vac. The heater has these parts:
*
Body (tube assembly)
*
Printed circuit card (PCC)
*
Cover
*
Electrical connector.
The body has a heater core and temperature sensors.
The printed circuit card attaches to the body under the cover. The card gives automatic control of the heater. The card controls the quanity of heat provided based on inputs from a control in the galley and the temperature sensors in the body of the heater. The card is sensitive to damage by electrostatic discharge (ESDS).
The heater has no LRUs.
Training Information Point
The heater cover has a placard that shows the correct direction of airflow. Make sure you install the heater correctly for the direction of airflow. If you install the heater incorrectly, the heater will overheat and fail.

A/C -SUPPLEMENTAL HEATING -DOOR AREA HEATERS -FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
General
The enable signals for the door area heaters come from the ECSMCs in the system card files. At card file power up, the right ECSMC gives primary control and the left gives backup control. The primary and backup control changes cards at each air/ ground transition.
See the air conditioning section for more information about the ECSMC (SECTION 21-00).
The ELMS has four circuits that the ECSMC use to enable the eight passenger door area heaters. Each ELMS circuit enables two heaters. These heaters are enabled together:
*
Doors 1 and 2 left
*
Doors 1 and 2 right
*
Doors 3 and 4 left
*
Doors 3 and 4 right.
The enable signal for the heaters goes to the left power management panel. A switch in the ELMS electronics (ELEX) unit supplies a ground to energize the related heater relay. Each relay supplies power to the related heater.
Control
Door area heaters receive power when these conditions are true:
*
Sufficient air flow exists in the air conditioning distribution ducts
*
The airplane is in the air.
During single pack operation, there is sufficient air flow when the pack is in schedule 1 or 2 and all recirculation fans are on. During 2 pack operation, there is sufficient air flow when the packs are in schedule 1 or 2 and two or more recirculation fans are on.
