 ú  Plug or cap tubes and holes in the area to be inspected to prevent
 ú  inspection materials from being entrapped.

 ú  (1) Application of Penetrant
 ú 
        ú
 WARNING: PENETRANT IS FLAMMABLE. THE FLASH POINT OF PENETRANT IS_______
 ú  CONSIDERABLY LOWERED WHEN USED AS A FINE SPRAY. TAKE
 ú  PRECAUTIONS AGAINST FIRE. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE
 ú  INSTRUCTIONS, INJURY TO PERSONS CAN OCCUR.
 ú
 ú  (a) Apply penetrant by spraying or brushing.
 ú  (b) Allow 20 to 60 minutes for penetration.
 ú

 ú  (2) Removal of Excess Penetrant (Preferred)
 (a) Remove excess penetrant with a hydrophilic remover provided it
 belongs to the same family as the penetrant used.
 1) Do not exceed 90 seconds contact time.
 ú  (b) If hydrophilic remover is applied manually, do not scrub the
 ú  surface of the part with the applicator.
 ú  (c) Use applicator only to deliver fluid to the part surface.
 ú  (d) Spray rinse the part with water from a squeeze bottle or spray
 ú  gun.
 ú  1) As an alternate, you can wipe the part with a clean dry
 ú  cloth or clean cloth dampened with water.
 ú  a) Removal of excess penetrant done by wiping can remove
 ú  the penetrant indication if excessive amount of solvent
 ú  is applied.
 ú  b) Be careful not to affect the sensitivity of the FPI.

 ú  (3) Removal of Excess Penetrant (Recommended)
 ú  (a) Wipe the excess penetrant with a clean dry cloth.
 ú

 WARNING: CLEANING SOLVENTS ARE FLAMMABLE, VOLATILE, AND TOXIC._______
 ú  THEY SHOULD BE USED WITH ADEQUATE VENTILATION. AVOID
 ú  PROLONGED BREATHING OF VAPORS AND REPEATED OR PROLONGED
 ú  CONTACT WITH THE SKIN, OR CLOTHING.

 ú  (b) Remove background fluorescence by wiping with a clean cloth
 ú  dampened with solvent.
 ú  (c) Look at the part under ultraviolet light to make sure excess
 ú  penetrant has been removed.
