 VERTICAL STABILIZER (FIN) - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

 1.  General_______
 A.  There are two tasks in this procedure. There is one task for the removal and one task for the installation of the vertical stabilizer. You must do these tasks in a hangar.
 (1)  
The removal procedure has these parts:

 (a)  
The removal of the access panels

 (b)  
The installation of the rudder gust lock

 (c)  
The removal of the rudder control cables

 (d)  
The installation of the sling assembly

 (e)  
The removal of the vertical fin.

 (2)  
The installation procedure has these parts:

 (a)  
The installation of the vertical fin

 (b)  
The removal of the sling assembly

 (c)  
The installation of the rudder control cables

 (d)  
The removal of the rudder gust lock

 (e)  
An adjustment of the rudder

 (f)  
The installation of the access panels.

 B.  There are two different sling assemblies which you can use to remove and install the vertical fin. The F80035-18 sling can be used with the rudder installed or removed. After the fin removal with the F80035-18 sling, the fin must be held in the vertical position. The C55004-1 sling can be used only with the rudder installed on the fin. After the fin removal with the C55004-1 sling, you can put the fin on its side.

 2.  Vertical Stabilizer (Fin) Removal_________________________________
 A.  Standard Tools and Equipment
 (1)  Overhead crane or a portable crane equipped with a 50-foot boom and capable of lifting 2400 pounds
 B.  Special Tools and Equipment
 (1)  
F80035-18 - Sling Assembly (Use if the fin will not be put on its side)

 (2)  
C55004-1 - Sling Assembly (Use if the fin will be put on its side)

 (3)  
F80150-1 - Rudder Gust Lock

 (4)  
SE27-2006 - Rudder Gust Lock (Airplanes with 3 rudder balance weights, install across lower balance weight slot)
