12) Connect the bridle hook A to the strongback (2) on the left side at location A. 13) Connect the bridle hook C to the strongback (2) on the right side at location C. 14) Connect the bridle hook H to the strongback (5) on the right side at location H. 15) Connect the bridle hook G to the strongback (10) on the right side at location G.

(7) Remove the vertical fin.
(a)
Remove the lockwire, the antirotation retainer bolt, the antirattle washer and the antirotation lock from the left hand and the right hand rear spar attach fittings (Fig. 402 sheet 2).
(b)
Remove the cotter pin, the nut, the washers and the bolt from the left hand and the right hand rear spar attach fittings (Fig. 402 sheet 1 & 2).
(c)
Remove the cotter pins, the self-locking nuts, the washers and the bolts from the front spar attach fittings (Fig. 402 sheet 1).
NOTE: If you remove the bolts to inspect them, remove one bolt

at a time to keep the fin aligned.
(d)
Lift the vertical fin from the airplane. Make sure there are no side loads on the sling attach points.
(e)
If the F80035-18 sling assembly is in use, lower the vertical fin on a cradle of sandbags below the spars. Hold the fin in the vertical position.
(f)
If the C55004-1 sling assembly is in use, lower the crane hook. The fin will turn to the horizontal position.

Remove the sling and the sling attachment fittings.
(a) Install the sling positioning screws in the fin surfaces.
(9)
Install the access doors.
(10)
Install a cover on the open structure on the fuselage.

Examine the leading edge of the vertical fin for aerodynamic smoothness (SRM 51-70-00).
