Options The function of the options is to record additional parameters which serve as maintenance and monitoring aids.
2. System Description__________________
A. CFDS (Ref. Fig. 001) The CFDIU is connected to most of the electronic systems (BITE) of the aircraft and stores failure information from these systems in memory. It also serves to initialize tests in each system. The MCDUs are control and display units. They serve to dialogue either with the CFDIU or with a particular aircraft system (via the CFDIU) to display failure information or to initialize tests. The printer provides print-outs of the various maintenance reports available.
B. Data Recording System (Ref. Fig. 002) The FDIU is connected to several electronic systems of the aircraft and performs acquisition of several parameters. These parameters are transmitted to the DFDR and recorded on magnetic tape. This recording serves in case of incident or accident : it is included in a protected area.

These parameters are also transmitted to the QAR and recorded on optical
disk.
This disk enables easy and quick access to these parameters.

The DMU is connected to other aircraft systems and performs acquisition
of other parameters.
The DMU is also connected to the MCDUs and to the printer to give direct
display of certain parameters.
These parameters are used as an aid to aircraft system monitoring and
maintenance (in particular engine monitoring).

3. Operation
_________ Utilization of the CFDIU and of the Data Recording System is based on an interactive dialogue between the system and the MCDU. Refer to the Description and Operation of the systems below:
-CFDIU (Ref. section 313200)
-FDIU (Ref. section 313300)
-DMU (Ref. section 313600)

_______________________________________________________________________
1. General
_______
A. Purpose of the Maintenance The purpose of the onboard maintenance is to provide maintenance personnel with an aid to fault diagnosis further to a complaint of the crew. To accomplish this goal:
(1)
Each system includes a Built-In-Test Equipment (BITE) used for detection and isolation of faulty equipment. Furthermore the system is able to initiate tests for the purpose of confirming a fault condition or checking that proper system operation is restored after corrective action. Remark: To simplify the task of maintenance personnel:
-
the faces of the computers and the maintenance test functions have been standardized
-
the maintenance messages are displayed in clear English language and always concern the faulty component or, in some cases, the faulty system.
(2)
A Centralized Fault Display Interface Unit (CFDIU) acquires and processes (completes, correlates, memorizes and presents) the data transmitted by the BITEs and the warnings which have originated the crew complaint.
(3)
The result of fault diagnosis is displayed to the maintenance operator through the Multipurpose Control and Display Units (MCDU) and the Printer which constitute the user interface.
