provided by the cabin add heat valve, (Item 26) modulated by the CABIN TEMP knob as in MAN
mode operation. Partial cockpit pressurization is provided only if the CABIN TEMP knob is above the
COLD position. Inflight, the emergency avionics cooling fan provides effective avionics cooling below
25,000 feet and below 325 KCAS.
With WonW, OFF/RAM does not energize the emergency avionics cooling fan. At idle, the avionics
are cooled by the aft avionics cooling fan. At or above 74% N2 rpm (70% decreasing from 74%), the
aft avionics cooling fan is turned off, and avionics equipment is deprived of all cooling sources (AV AIR
HOT caution). Therefore, during ground operations in the ECS OFF/RAM mode, the throttles should
be kept below 70% N2 rpm, if possible. If not possible or if an AV AIR HOT caution remains, placing
the BLEED AIR knob to OFF reenergizes the aft avionics cooling fan and provides normal avionics
cooling.
2.12.7.4 AUG PULL. On the ground, APU compressor air may be used instead of engine bleed air to
run the ECS and cool the avionics (BLEED AIR knob in AUG PULL). Typically, AUG PULL
operation is beneficial only if increased avionics cooling is required (e.g., AV AIR HOT caution) AND
if both throttles must be left at ground idle; otherwise, advancing one throttle to 74%N2 rpm (ECS
MODE switch in AUTO) provides the best means for cooling the avionics.

With both generators online and the APU running, selecting AUG PULL (up on the BLEED AIR
knob):
a. overrides APU automatic shutdown
b. closes the secondary bleed air shutoff valve.
c. opens the ECS air isolation valve.
d. shuts down the aft avionics cooling fan.
e. and directs APU air to the ECS for cabin and avionics cooling.
The BLEED AIR knob must be in any position except OFF (NORM preferred). With both
generators online and the APU shut down, AUG PULL must be selected within 1 minute of APU
restart to inhibit automatic APU shutdown. If the AUG PULL position is selected with only one engine
operating, APU air to the ECS is terminated (ECS air isolation valve closed) during the second engine
start but is regained after both engines are running.
Moving both throttles to MIL or manually pushing the BLEED AIR knob down terminates APU
flow to the ECS, restores normal bleed air functioning, and after 1 minute shuts down the APU. With
one or both engines shutdown, the APU must be manually shutdown following AUG PULL
termination; the automatic APU shutdown feature is disabled.
2.12.7.5 ECS MODE Switch. The ECS MODE switch, located on the ECS panel on the right console,
is used to select the ECS operating mode.
AUTO Selects the normal ECS operating mode (cockpit and avionics airflow scheduled by
the ECS controller).
MAN Selects the manual ECS operating mode (normal ECS schedules bypassed).
OFF/RAM Terminates conditioned ECS airflow (extends the RAM air scoop for cockpit airflow,
selects MAN mode temperature control for cockpit heating, and turns on the
emergency avionics cooling fan for avionics cooling inflight).
2.12.7.6 CABIN TEMP knob. The CABIN TEMP knob, located on the ECS panel on the right
console, is used to control the temperature of air delivered to the cockpit. With the ECS MODE switch
in AUTO, clockwise rotation of the CABIN TEMP knob linearly increases cabin temperature. With the
ECS MODE switch in MAN or OFF/RAM, clockwise rotation of the CABIN TEMP knob directly
controls the position of the cabin add heat valve, producing a nonlinear temperature response.
COLD Selects 35°F air in AUTO mode (60°F with DEFOG HIGH). Selects cabin add heat
valve fully closed in MAN or OFF/RAM modes.
HOT Selects 135°F air in AUTO mode (160°F with DEFOG HIGH). Selects cabin add heat
valve fully open in MAN or OFF/RAM modes.
2.12.7.7 Cockpit Louvers/Foot Heater. Three sets of louvers are provided to direct airflow within
the cockpit: one on either side of the main instrument panel and one at the base of the center console
behind the control stick. The left and right louvers have controls for elevation and azimuth. The center
louver has a single control for elevation and can be closed completely by moving the lever to the full
aft position.

Maximum aircrew cooling is provided by pulling the DEFOG HANDLE full aft, closing the center
louver, and directing the side louvers towards the body. A foot heater outlet is also provided, directing
cockpit airflow to the base of the cockpit.
2.12.7.8 DEFOG Handle. The DEFOG handle, located on the right console outboard of the ECS
panel, controls the division of airflow between the windshield defog outlets, the three cockpit louvers,
and the foot heater. The DEFOG handle mechanically controls the position of the cabin air/defog
