Subpart E : Powerplant
FAR 23.1019 : Oil strainer or .lter.
(a)
Each turbine engine installation must incorporate an oil strainer or .lter through which all of the engine oil .ows and which meets the following requirements :

(1)
Each oil strainer or .lter that has a bypass, must be constructed and installed so that oil will .ow at the normal rate through the rest of the system with the strainer or .lter completely blocked.

(2)
The oil strainer or .lter must have the capacity (with respect to operating limitations established for the engine) to ensure that engine oil system func-tioningisnotimpaired whentheoiliscontaminated toadegree(with respect toparticle size anddensity) thatisgreaterthan that establishedfor the engine [for its type certi.cation.

(3)
The oil strainer or .lter, unless it is installed at an oil tank outlet, must in-corporate a means to ]indicate contamination before it reaches the capacity establishedin accordance withparagraph(a)(2) of this section.

(4)
The bypass of a strainer or .lter must be constructed and installed so that the release of collected contaminants is minimized by appropriate location of the bypasstoensurethatcollected contaminantsarenotinthebypass .owpath.

(5)
Anoil straineror .lterthathasnobypass, except onethatisinstalled at anoil tank outlet, must have a means to connect it to the warning system required in[ Sec. 23.1305(c)(9).]

(b)
Each oil strainer or .lter in a powerplant installation using reciprocating engines must be constructed and installed so that oil will .ow at the normal rate through the rest of the system with the strainer or .lter element completely blocked.

[Be accessible;

(b)
Have drain valves, or other closures, employing manual or automatic shut-o. means forpositivelocking inthe closedposition; and

(c)
Be located or protected to prevent inadvertent operation.] Amdt. 23-43, E.. 05/10/93

FAR 23.1023 : Oil radiators.
Each oil radiator and its supporting structures must be able to withstand the vibra-tion, inertia, and oil pressure loads to which it would be subjected in operation.
FAR 23.1027 : Propeller feathering system.
(a)
[If the propeller feathering system uses engine oil and that oil supply can become depletedduetofailureof anypart of the oil system, ameansmustbeincorporated to reserve enough oil to operate the feathering system.

(b)
The amount of reserved oil must be enough to accomplish feathering and must be available only to the feathering pump.

(c)
The ability of the system to accomplish feathering with the reserved oil must be shown.]

(d)
Provision must be made toprevent sludge or otherforeign matterfrom a.ecting the safe operation of the propeller feathering system.
