Floor covering, textiles (including draperies and upholstery), seat cu-shions, padding, decorative and non-decorative coated fabrics, leather, trays and galley furnishings, electrical conduit, thermal and acoustical insulation and insulation covering, air ducting, joint and edge covering, cargo compartmentliners,insulationbrakes, cargo covers and transparen-cies, molded andthermoformedparts, airductingjoints, andtrim strips (decorative and cha.ng), that are constructed of materials not covered inparagraph(d)(3)(iv) ofthis section mustbe self extinguishing when tested vertically in accordance with the applicable portions of Appendix F of this Part or other approved equivalent methods. The average burn length may not exceed 8 inches and the average .ame time after removal of the .ame source may not exceed 15 seconds. Drippings from the test specimenmay not continueto .ameformorethananaverageof5 seconds after falling.


(iii) Motionpicture .lmmustbesafety .lmmeeting theStandardSpeci.ca-tions for Safety Photographic Film PH1.25(available from the American National Standards Institute, 1430 Broadway, New York, N.Y. 10018) or an FAA approved equivalent. If the .lm travels through ducts, the ducts must meetthe requirements ofparagraph(d)(3)(ii) of this section.
(iv)
Acrylic windowsand signs,partsconstructedin whole orinpartof elas-tomeric materials, edge-lightedinstrument assemblies consisting of two or moreinstrumentsin a commonhousing, seatbelts, shoulderharnesses, and cargo andbaggage tiedown equipment,including containers,bins,pallets, etc., used in passenger or crew compartments, may not have an average burn rate greater than 2.5 inches per minute when tested horizontally in accordance with the applicable portions of appendix F of this part or by other approved equivalent methods.

(v)
Exceptforelectrical wire cableinsulation, andfor smallparts(such as knobs,handles, rollers,fasteners, clips,grommets, rub strips,pulleys, and small electrical parts) that the Administrator .nds would not contribute signi.cantlytothepropagationof a .re,materialsinitemsnot speci.edin (d)(3)(i),(ii),(iii), or(iv)of this section may nothave aburn rategreater than 4.0 inches per minute when tested horizontally in accordance with the applicable portions of appendix F of this part or by other approved equivalent methods.

Lines,tanks,orequipmentcontainingfuel,oil,orother.ammable .uidsmay notbe installed in such compartments unless adequately shielded, isolated, or otherwise protectedso that anybreakage orfailure of such anitem would not create ahazard.

(f)
Airplanematerialslocatedonthecabinsideof the .rewall mustbeself-extinguishing or be located at such a distance from the .rewall, or otherwise protected, so that ignition will not occur if the .rewall is subjected to a .ame temperature of not less than2,000'Ffor15 minutes.For self-extinguishing materials(except electrical wire and cable insulation and small parts that the Administrator .nds would not contribute signi.cantly to the propagation of a .re), a vertical self-extinguishing test mustbe conductedin accordance with appendixF of thispart or an equivalent method approved by the Administrator. The average burn length of the material may not exceed 6 inches and the average .ame time after removal of the .ame source may not exceed 15 seconds. Drippings from the material test specimen may not continue to .ame for more than an average of 3 seconds after falling.

(a)
[Sources of heat within each cargo and baggage compartment that are capable of igniting the compartment contents mustbe shielded andinsulated toprevent such ignition.

(b)
Each cargo and baggage compartment must be constructed of materials that meet the appropriateprovisions ofSec.23.853(d)(3).
