FAR 23.1521 : Powerplant limitations.
(a)
General.Thepowerplantlimitationsprescribedin this section mustbe established so that theydo not exceed the correspondinglimitsfor which the engines orpropellers aretype certi.cated.Inaddition,otherpowerplantlimitationsusedindetermining compliance with this part must be established.

(b)
Takeo. operation. The powerplant takeo. operation must be limited by–

(1)
The maximum rotational speed(rpm);

(2)
The maximum allowable manifoldpressure(for reciprocating engines);

(3)
The maximum allowablegastemperature(forturbine engines);

(4)
The time limit for the use of the power or thrust corresponding to the limita-tions establishedinparagraphs(b)(1) through(3) of this section; and

(5)
[The maximum allowable cylinderhead(as applicable),liquidcoolant and oil temperatures.]

 

(c)
Continuous operation. The continuous operation must be limited by–

(1)
The maximum rotational speed;

(2)
The maximum allowable manifoldpressure(for reciprocating engines);

(3)
The maximum allowablegastemperature(forturbine engines); and

(4)
The maximum allowable cylinder head, oil, and liquid coolant temperatures.

 

(d)
Fuel grade or designation.The minimumfuelgrade(for reciprocating engines), or fueldesignation(for turbine engines), mustbe established so thatitis notless than that required for the operation of the engines within the limitations in paragraphs (b)and(c) of this section.

(e)
[Ambient temperature. For all airplanes except reciprocating engine-powered air-planes of 6,000 pounds or less maximum weight, ambient temperature limitations (includinglimitations for winterization installations if applicable) must be establi-shed as the maximum ambient atmospheric temperature at which compliance with the coolingprovisions ofSecs.23.1041 through23.1047is shown.]

Navigation,

Communications,

(5)
Operation and monitoring of all essential airplane systems,

Command decisions, and

(7)
The accessibility and ease of operation of necessary controls by the appro-priate crewmember during all normal and emergency operations when at the crewmember .ight station.]

 

(b)
The accessibility and case of operation of necessary controls by the appropriate crewmember; and

(c)
The kinds of operation authorized under Sec. 23.1525. Amdt. 23-34, E.. 02/17/87
