WATER TYPE FIRE EXTINGUISHER - SERVICING
1. Equipment and Materials
A. Premixed solution, 213923 (Ref 20-60-5)
B. Anti-freeze agent, 800341 (Ref 20-60-5)
C. C02 cartridge, 201386 (Ref 20-60-5)
D. Graduated container of 1-3/8 quarts capacity
E. Compressed air supply
F. Fine mesh cloth to be used as filter
G. Cleaning solvent, P-S-661 (Ref 20-60-3)
H. Grease, MIL-G-4343 (Ref 20-60-2)
2. Prepare Extinguisher for Charging
A. Disassembly cylinder assembly from valve assembly as follows:
(1)
Remove seal and seal wire (Fig. 301).
WARNING: MAKE CERTAIN THAT EXTINGUISHER IS COMPLETELY DISCHARGED BEFORE ATTEMPTING FURTHER DISASSEMBLY.
(2)
If unit is tamper-proof type, remove three set screws and lockring.
(3)
Unscrew holder from valve.
(4)
Remove spring from inside holder and used cartridge from valve.
(5)
Discard used cartridge.
(6)
Unscrew cylinder assembly from valve. The instruction decal and nameplate decal need not be removed unless damaged.

B. Clean components of extinguisher.
(1)
Wash all metallic parts in dry cleaning solvent and dry with clean, dry compressed air.
(2)
Use clean, dry, compressed air to dislodge any particles of foreign matter from strainer portion of syphon tube and strainer assembly.
(3)
Depress liner and flush valve and syphon tube with water.
4. Charge Extinguisher
A. Pour premixed solution (if used) into extinguisher.
B. When using antifreeze agent, thoroughly dissolve contents of antifreeze package in 1 quart of clean water. Add enough additional water to bring the solution of 1-3/8 quarts. Stir the solution thoroughly. Allow solution to attain room temperature and then pour solution through screening cloth, into extinguisher.
CAUTION: DO NOT ALLOW ANY UNDISSOLVED AGENT OR OTHER FOREIGN MATTER TO BE POURED INTO EXTINGUISHER.
C. Prepare valve assembly for installation.
NOTE: Before assembly apply light coat of grease to neck of cartridge, to external threads of valve body, and to internal threads of holder (Fig. 301).
(1)
Insert spring into holder.
(2)
Insert new cartridge into valve body.
(3)
Place holder over cartridge and turn holder until red lines on holder and valve body match.
D. Assemble the valve assembly to cylinder assembly, by hand.
E. If extinguisher is of tamper-proof variety, slip lockring over holder. Position lockring with its outside surface flush with outside surface of liner. Lock lockring in place using three set screws.
F. Attach new seal wire and new seal.
G. If instruction decal or nameplate decal have been removed from cylinder, apply new decals to cylinder assembly.

LAVATORY FIRE EXTINGUISHING SYSTEM - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
1. General
A. The lavatory fire extinguishing system is a fixed system providing fire extinguishing capability to the lavatory cabinet assembly. Extinguishing is accomplished by flooding the cabinet area with an inert gas.
