Test Engine Fire Extinguishing System Tubing Continuity and Electrical Circuit Operation
(a)
Pressurize system tubing to 35(+5) psig. Verify no air is escaping from Eng-1 and Eng-2 fire extinguishing discharge outlets, confirming Eng-1 and Eng-2 selector valves are closed.
(b)
Arm No. 1 fire switch by pressing override button behind fire switch handle and pulling up on handle.
(c)
Turn No. 1 fire switch handle counterclockwise as far as possible. Hold approximately 5 seconds and release. Check that light on test box connected to D582 illuminates while switch is held. 1) Air should be heard escaping at Eng-1 fire extinguishing discharge outlet,
providing Eng-1 selector valve is functioning and discharge line is continuous.
(d)
Shut off air supply.

(e)
Allow several minutes for air pressure in tubing to bleed off and Eng-1 selector valve to close. Airflow stops when valve closes.
(f)
Repressurize system tubing to 35(+5)psig.
(g)
Check that no air is escaping from Eng-1 and Eng-2 fire extinguishing discharge outlets, confirming Eng-1 and Eng-2 selector valves are closed.
(h)
Repeat steps (a) thru (g) for No. 2 fire switch. For step (c).1., verify air is heard escaping at Eng-2 fire extinguishing discharge outlet, providing Eng-2 selector valve is functioning and discharge line is continuous and check that light on test box connected to D582 illuminates while switch is held.
(i)
Reset fire switch handles to NORM position.
(j)
Disconnect compressed air source from fwd bottle discharge hose and connect to aft bottle discharge hose.
(k)
Repeat steps (a) thru (g) with No. 1 fire switch handle turned fully clockwise at step (c). For step (c).1., verify air is heard escaping at Eng-1 fire extinguishing discharge outlet, providing Eng-1 selector valve is functioning and discharge line is continuous and check that light on test box connected to D584 illuminates while switch is held.
(l)
Repeat steps (a) thru (g) with No. 2 fire switch handle turned fully clockwise at step (c). For step (c).1., verify air is heard escaping at Eng-2 fire extinguishing discharge outlet, providing Eng-2 selector valve is functioning and discharge line is continuous and check that light on test box connected to D584 illuminates while switch is held.
(m)
Reset fire switch handles to NORM position.
(n)
Apply jumpers across pins 1 and 2 of electrical connector D586. Check that left bottle discharge light on P8-1 fire protection module illuminates.
(o)
Apply jumper across pins 1 and 2 of electrical connector D588. Check that right bottle discharge light on P8-1 fire protection module illuminates.
(4) Restore Airplane to Normal Configuration
(a)
Disconnect air source and connect bottle discharge hoses to associated bottle discharge plugs.
(b)
Disconnect test box at electrical connectors D582 and D584.
(c)
Remove shunt plugs from fire extinguisher bottle squibs.
(d)
Connect electrical connectors to the appropriate bottle discharge plugs.
1) D582 is connected to the fwd fire bottle.
2) D584 is connected to the aft fire bottle.
(e)
Connect electrical connectors D586 and D588 at the bottle pressures gages.

C. Squib and Selector Control Valve Continuity Test
(1)
Prepare for Squib Continuity Test
(a)
Apply electrical power.
(b)
Check that EXTINGUISHER BOTTLES RIGHT and EXTINGUISHER BOTTLES LEFT circuit breakers on panel P6-2 and all IND LIGHTS, APU EXT BTL, SEC 1, and SEC 5 circuit breakers on P6-3 are closed.
(2)
Test Squib Continuity
(a)
Disconnect electrical connectors D582 and D584 from bottle discharge plugs.
WARNING: BOTTLE DISCHARGE PLUG CONNECTOR MUST BE DISCONNECTED. OPERATION OF FIRE SWITCH WILL DETONATE EXPLOSIVE CHARGE IF CONNECTOR IS NOT REMOVED FROM DISCHARGE PLUG.
(b)
Press EXT Test press-to-test light on P8-1 fire protection module and verify L and R lights do not illuminate (APU light will illuminate).
(c)
Connect electrical connector D582 to the fwd bottle discharge plug.
(d)
Press EXT TEST press-to-test light on P8-1 fire protection module.
