APU FIRE EXTINGUISHER BOTTLE - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1. General
A. New bottles are supplied with the squib assembled on the bottle.
NOTE: The squib date of manufacture tag, if supplied with the squib, must be secured to the bottle discharge plug.
B. Check the weight of the APU fire extinguisher bottle before installation to prevent installing a bottle that has been improperly serviced. The maximum weight of properly serviced fire extinguisher bottle with squib installed is marked on the nameplate. Bottles weighing 0.06 pound less than that marked on nameplate should not be installed.
NOTE: Remove squib shunt plug before weighing.
2. Prepare APU Fire Extinguisher Bottle for Removal
A. Open APU extinguisher bottle and all IND LIGHTS circuit breakers on load control center P6.
B. Remove access panel 3701.
3. Remove APU Fire Extinguisher Bottle
A. Disconnect electrica1 connectors from fire extinguisher discharge squib (Fig. 401).
B. Remove discharge squib from bottle and cap ends or install metal foil shunt over electrical pins.
WARNING: SQUIB IS AN EXPLOSIVE. PROTECTIVE CAPS MUST BE INSTALLED ON ENDS OF SQUIB OR METAL FOIL SHUNT INSTALLED OVER ELECTRICAL PINS WHEN HANDLING SQUIB.
C. Disconnect tubing from thermal relief discharge port.
D. Disconnect discharge line from fire extinguisher bottle discharge plug.
E. Remove three mounting bolts and remove fire extinguisher bottle.

4. Install APU Fire Extinguisher Bottle
A. Position fire extinguisher bottle in support frame and install mounting bolts.
B. Connect discharge line to discharge plug. Tighten fitting from 45 to 55 pound-feet.
C. Connect and lockwire safety discharge tubing (if applicable) to safety discharge port.
D. Remove protective caps and install discharge squib in fire extinguisher discharge plug. Tighten squib to 96 +12 pound-inches and lockwire.
NOTE: The squib must be inspected for damage with special attention given to the soft seal, opposite the electrical connector, which protects the explosive charge. If punctured or otherwise damaged, the squib must be replaced with a new part.
E. Connect electrical wiring to discharge squib and pressure switch.
NOTE: If foil shunt is installed across squib connecting pins remove foil shunt prior to connecting electrical wiring.
F. Test wiring, and discharge plug squib for continuity (Ref 26-22-0 A/T).
G. Close access panel 3701.

APU FIRE EXTINGUISHER BOTTLE - INSPECTION/CHECK
1. APU Fire Extinguisher Bottle Check
A. Check Bottle Serviceability
(1) Serviceability of the APU fire extinguisher bottle is determined by removing and weighing bottle. Total weight of bottle (including squib) and freon is provided on nameplate. Replace bottle if weight is 0.10 pound less than that marked on nameplate.
NOTE: Remove squib shunt plug before weighing.
B. Check Discharge Cartridge (Squib) Service Life
(1) To ascertain unexpired service life of the squib, check the manufacturer's date stamp on the edge of the cartridge. See manufacturer's data for recommended maximum life.
NOTE: If squib is subjected to high temperatures or unusual conditions, service life may vary from value given. For further information, contact HTL ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY, Monrovia, California 91016.

1. General
A. The APU fire extinguisher bottle squib is normally serviced more frequently than the fire extinguisher bottle. A manufacturer's date stamp is on the edge of the cartridge. (See manufacturer's recommendations for specific maximum service life.)
WARNING: THE SQUIB IS AN EXPLOSIVE. PROTECTIVE CAPS MUST BE INSTALLED ON ENDS OF SQUIB OR ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR PINS SHOULD BE JUMPERED WITH METAL FOIL WHENEVER HANDLING CARTRIDGE.
