FAR 29.1109 : Carburetor air cooling.
It must be shown under Sec. 29.1043 that each installation using two-stage super-chargers has means to maintain the air temperature, at the carburetor inlet, at or below the maximum established value.

Subpart E : Powerplant
75.8 Exhaust System
FAR 29.1121 : General.
[Forpowerplant andauxiliarypower unitinstallationsthefollowing apply :]
(a)
Each exhaust system must ensure safe disposal of exhaust gases without .re hazard or carbon monoxide contamination in any personnel compartment.

(b)
[Eachexhaust systempart with asurfacehot enoughtoignite .ammable .uids or vapors mustbelocated or shielded so thatleakagefrom any system carrying .ammable .uids or vapors will not result in a .re caused by impingement of the .uids or vapors on any part of the exhaust system including shields for the exhaust system.

(c)
Eachcomponent upon whichhot exhaustgases couldimpinge, or that couldbe subjected tohigh temperaturesfromexhaustsystemparts, mustbe .reproof. Each exhaustsystemcomponentmustbeseparatedby a .reproof shieldfrom adjacentparts of the rotorcraftthat are outside the engine and auxiliarypower unit compartments.]

(d)
No exhaust gases may discharge so as to cause a .re hazard with respect to any .ammable .uid vent or drain.

(e)
No exhaustgases maydischarge wheretheywill cause aglare seriously a.ecting pilot vision at night.

(f)
Each exhaust system component must be ventilated to prevent points of ex-cessively high temperature.

(g)
Each exhaust shroud must be ventilated or insulated to avoid, during normal operation, atemperaturehigh enough toigniteany.ammable .uidsorvapors outside the shroud.

(h)
If signi.canttrapsexist, each turbine engineexhaust systemmusthavedrains discharging clearof therotorcraft, inany normalground and .ightattitudes, to prevent fuel accumulation after the failure of an attempted engine start.

FAR 29.1123 : Exhaust piping.
(a)
Exhaustpiping mustbeheat and corrosion resistant, and musthaveprovisions to prevent failure due to expansion by operating temperatures.

(b)
Exhaust piping must be supported to withstand any vibration and inertia loads to which it would be subjected in operation.

(c)
Exhaustpiping connected to components between which relative motion could existmusthaveprovisionsfor .exibility.

FAR 29.1125 : Exhaust heat exchangers.
For reciprocating engine powered rotorcraft the following apply :
(a) Each exhaust heat exchanger must be constructed and installed to withstand the vibration, inertia, and other loads to which it would be subjected in ope-ration. In addition–
(1)
Each exchanger must be suitable for continued operation at high tempe-ratures and resistant to corrosion from exhaust gases;

(2)
There mustbe meansforinspecting the criticalparts of each exchanger;

(3)
Each exchanger must have cooling provisions wherever it is subject to contact with exhaust gases; and

(4)
[No exhaust heat exchanger or mu. may have stagnant areas or liquid traps that would increase the probability of ignition of .ammable .uids or vapors that might be present in case of the failure or malfunction of components carrying .ammable .uids.]

(b) Ifan exhaustheat exchangeris usedforheating ventilating air usedbypersonnel–
(1)
There must be a secondary heat exchanger between the primary exhaust gasheat exchanger andthe ventilating air system; or

(2)
Other means must be used to prevent harmful contamination of the ven-

tilating air. Amdt. 29-41, E.. 11/28/97
75.9 Powerplant Controls and Accessories
FAR 29.1141 : Powerplant controls : general.
(a)
Powerplantcontrols must be located and arranged under Sec. 29.777 and mar-ked under Sec. 29.1555.
