(b)
Engines other than certain rotorcraft engines. For each engine except a rotorcraft enginefor which a rating isdesired underparagraph(c),(d), or(e) of this section, the applicant must conduct the following runs :

(1)
Takeo. and idling. One hour of alternate .ve-minute periods at rated takeo. power and thrust and at idling power and thrust. The developed powers and thrusts at takeo. and idling conditions and their corresponding rotor speed and gas temperature conditions must be as established by the power control in accordance with the schedule established by the manufacturer. The appli-cant may, during any one period, manually control the rotor speed, power, and thrustwhiletakingdatatocheckperformance.Forengineswith augmen-ted takeo. power ratings that involve increases in turbine inlet temperature, rotor speed, or shaft power, this period of running at takeo. must be at the augmented rating. For engines with augmented takeo. power ratings that do not materially increase operating severity, the amount of running conducted at the augmented rating is determined by the Administrator. In changing the powersetting after eachperiod,thepower-controllevermustbe movedinthe mannerprescribedinparagraph(b)(5) of this section.

(2)
Rated maximum continuous and takeo. power and thrust. Thirty minutes at–

(i)
Ratedmaximumcontinuouspowerandthrustduring.fteenofthetwenty-.ve 6-hour endurance test cycles; and

(ii)
Rated takeo. power and thrust during ten of the twenty-.ve 6-hour en-durance test cycles.

(3)
Rated maximum continuous power and thrust. One hour and 30 minutes at rated maximum continuouspower and thrust.

(4)
Incremental cruise power and thrust. Two hours and 30 minutes at the suc-cessivepowerleverpositions corresponding to at least15 approximately equal speed and time increments between maximum continuous engine rotational speed and ground or minimum idle rotational speed. For engines operating at constant speed, the thrust and power may be varied in place of speed. If there is signi.cant peak vibration anywhere between ground idle and maxi-mum continuous conditions, the number ofincrements chosen maybe changed to increase the amount of running made while subject to the peak vibrations up to not more than50percent of the total time spentinincremental running.

(5)
Acceleration and deceleration runs. 30 minutes of accelerations and decelera-tions, consisting of six cycles from idling power and thrust to rated takeo. power and thrust and maintained at the takeo. power lever position for 30 seconds and at the idling power lever position for approximately four and one-half minutes. In complying with this paragraph, the power-control lever must be moved from one extreme position to the other in not more than one second, except that, if di.erent regimes of control operations areincorporated necessitating scheduling of the power-control lever motion in going from one extreme position to the other, a longer period of time is acceptable, but not more than two seconds.

(6)
Starts.Onehundred starts must be made, of which25 starts must bepreceded by atleast a two-hour engine shutdown. There mustbe atleast10false engine

starts, pausingforthe applicant’s speci.ed minimumfueldrainagetime, before attempting a normal start. There mustbe atleast10 normal restarts with not longer than 15 minutes since engine shutdown. The remaining starts may be made after completing the 150 hours of endurance testing.
(c)
Rotorcraft engines for which a 30-minute OEI power rating is desired. For each rotorcraft enginefor which a30-minuteOEIpower rating isdesired, the applicant must conduct the following series of tests :

(1)
Takeo. and idling. Onehour of alternate5-minuteperiods at rated takeo.po-wer and atidlingpower.Thedevelopedpowers at takeo. andidling conditions and their corresponding rotor speed and gas temperature conditions must be as established by the power control in accordance with the schedule establi-shedby the manufacturer.During any oneperiod, the rotor speed andpower may be controlled manually while taking data to check performance. For en-gines with augmented takeo. power ratings that involve increases in turbine inlettemperature, rotorspeed, orshaftpower, thisperiod of running atrated takeo. power must be at the augmented power rating. In changing the po-wer setting after each period, the power control lever must be moved in the mannerprescribedinparagraph(c)(5) of this section.
