1. General
A. Major components of the standby power system are the static inverter, standby power transfer relays, ac voltage sensor, the standby power switch, and the STANDBY POWER OFF light. The standby power system should be tested after component replacement or after any other maintenance has been performed on the system.
B. Both an operational test and a complete system test are provided for the standby power system. The operational test stands alone and may be performed whenever required. Test the ac generation system (Ref. 24-21-0 A/T) and the dc generation system (Ref. 24-31-0 A/T) prior to performing system test.
2. Prepare to Perform Standby Power System Test or Operational Test
A. Verify EMER EXIT LIGHTS switch on P5 overhead panel is in OFF position.
CAUTION: EMERGENCY EXIT LIGHTING CONTROL SWITCH MUST BE IN OFF POSITION BEFORE REMOVING POWER FROM AIRPLANE. IF LEFT IN ARMED POSITION ALL EMERGENCY LIGHTS WILL COME ON AND BATTERIES WILL DISCHARGE.
B. Set STANDBY POWER and BAT switches on P5 to OFF.
C. Check that the following circuit breakers are closed.
(1)
BATTERY CHARGER on J9
(2)
BAT BUS CONT AUTO, BAT BUS CONTROL MANUAL, HOT BATT BUS, BAT CHARGER, ALT BAT CHARGER, INVERTER PWR, STBY BUS PWR AC, STANDBY POWER AUTO CONT, INVERTER CONT, STANDBY POWER IND LT, AC INDICATION STBY BUS BAT TRANS CONT, and BAT BUS on P6.
(3)
STBY HORIZON on P18
D. Apply 115/200 volts ac, 400 Hz, to external power receptacle P19.
(1) Observe GRD POWER AVAILABLE light on P5 and EXT PWR TR light on electrical power annunciator panel M238 illuminate.
NOTE: To obtain an indication from the M238 module, place IND-TEST switch (S2) in IND position.
E. Set BAT switch to ON.
(1)
Observe BATT light on M238 illuminates.
(2)
Observe STANDBY PWR OFF, both TRANSFER BUS OFF, both BUS OFF and both GEN OFF BUS lights on P5 illuminate.
3. Standby Power System Test
A. Test normal ac supply to standby bus
(1) Set GRD PWR switch on P5 to ON.
(a)
Observe DC BUS PWR ON NO. 1 light on M238 illuminates.
(b)
Observe both TRANSFER BUS OFF and both BUS OFF lights on P5 extinguish.

(2)
Open HOT BAT BUS circuit breaker on panel P6-6.
(a) Observe that BATT light on M238 remains illuminated.
(3)
Close HOT BAT BUS circuit breaker.
(4)
Set STANDBY POWER switch to AUTO.
(a)
Observe STANDBY POWER OFF light on P5 extinguish.
(b)
Observe AC BUS STBY light on M238 illuminates.
(c)
Set ac meters selector switch on P5 to STBY PWR and observe voltmeter reads 115
+ 5 volts ac and frequency meter reads 400 + 10 Hz.
(d)
Observe standby horizon flags disappear.
(e)
Set dc meters selector switch to STBY PWR and observe voltmeter reads 26 + 4 volts dc.
B. Test inverter supply to standby power bus.
(1)
Open STANDBY POWER AUTO CONT circuit breaker.
(a)
Observe voltmeter reads 115 + 5 volts and frequency meter reads 400 + 10 Hz with ac meters selector switch set to STBY PWR.
(b)
Observe voltmeter reads 26 + 4 volts with dc meters selector switch set to BAT BUS.
(c)
Observe standby horizon indicator flag remains out of view.
(d)
Observe AC BUS STBY light on M238 remains illuminated.
(2)
Close STANDBY POWER AUTO CONT circuit breaker.
(3)
Open STBY BUS PWR AC circuit breaker.
(a) Observe voltmeter reads zero and in approximately two seconds reads 115 + 5 volts ac.
(4)
Close STBY BUS PWR AC circuit breaker.
C. Test manual selection of standby power bus.
(1)
Set STANDBY POWER switch to BAT.
(a) Observe voltmeter reads 115 + 5 volts ac immediately. Check that the time delay observed in step B.(3)(a) is not present.
(2)
Open BAT BUS CONT AUTO and BAT BUS circuit breakers on P6-5.
(a) Observe BATT light on M238 is illuminated.
(3)
Open BAT BUS CONT MANUAL circuit breaker on P6-5.
(a) Observe BATT light on M238 extinguishes.
(4)
