737 Flight Crew Operations Manual
SYMBOL  NAME  MODE  REMARKS 
TO FROM or  TO/FROM annunciation  All  Indicates movement to or from a VOR station. Displayed when the selected VOR is valid and VOR mode is selected on the EFIS control panel. 

 Runway outline  AII, AIII  Displayed between 500 and 100 feet radio altitude. Width of runway is set to 150 feet. Length is based on value entered in the CDU. Tic marks are displayed at the touchdown aimpoint representing 1000 feet from the runway threshold. 
RETARD  Retard message  All  Indicates that a slow power reduction is to be initiated for the final phase of the flare maneuver. 
NP or or AI AII or AIII  HUD system mode  All  Indicates current HUD system mode. Only NP mode can be selected on the ground. 
NP - - - - AIII  Indicates current HUD system mode displayed over the armed HUD system mode. 
GND ROLL NO GND ROLL or  Additional FMA roll mode annunciations  All  Indicates HUD ground roll guidance availability.

SYMBOL  NAME  MODE  REMARKS 
FLARE NO FLARE or  Additional FMA pitch mode annunciations  All  Indicates HUD flare guidance availability. When either of these modes is active, the respective HUD annunciator illuminates. 
1 CH  Autopilot status annunciation  All  Indicates single channel. 
EXCESS DEV  Excess deviation message  AII, AIII  Displayed if approach criteria are exceeded. The EXCESS DEV light also illuminates on the HUD annunciator panel. 
NO AIII  AIII approach status warning  AIII  Displayed for 5 seconds if an AIII approach criteria is not satisfied. The NO AIII light also illuminates on the HUD annunciator panel. 
SYS FAIL  HUD system warning  All  Displayed for a critical fault in the HUD system. The SYS FAIL light also illuminates on the HUD annunciator panel.

TAILSTRIKE  Tail strike warning  All  Displayed for 5 seconds if the current approach AOA may result in a tailstrike on landing. Tailstrike monitoring is active at 300, 150 and 75 feet radio altitude. The TAIL STRIKE light also illuminates on the HUD annunciator panel. 
NO FLARE  Flare warning  All  Displayed when flare guidance is unavailable. The NO FLARE light also illuminates on the HUD annunciator panel. 
ENG FAIL  Engine failure warning  All  Displayed if an engine fails.

TCAS Resolution Advisory
SYMBOL  NAME  MODE  REMARKS 
TACS  Down preventive  All  Area(s) inside the lines indicate the pitch region(s) to avoid in order to resolve the traffic conflict. The flight path symbol should be positioned outside the pitch command area(s) to ensure traffic avoidance. A “T” inside the guidance cue indicates a corrective action is required, and represents TCAS maneuver guidance to maintain or increase separation from the traffic. The “TCAS” annunciation moves to a position under the bank angle symbol after 5 seconds of display. 
TACS  Up preventive 
TACS TACS  Up and down preventive 
T TACS  Descend corrective 
T TACS  Climb corrective

Failure Flags
SYMBOL  NAME  MODE  REMARKS 
ATT  IRS attitude flag  All  Attitude has failed. Also blanks: FPV, flight director, flare cue, altitude awareness bug, artificial runway, TO/GA pitch target line and glideslope reference line. 
FPV  Flight path vector (FPV) flag  All  Indicates FPV is invalid. The flight director and flare cues are blanked. The groundspeed readout may also be blanked based on the nature of the failure. 
HDG  Heading flag  All  Heading data has failed.
