FIXED OXYGEN SYSTEM FOR CABIN - DESCRIPTION

GENERAL

The cabin’s fixed oxygen system supplies oxygen to the occupants, in case of cabin
depressurization.
Chemical generators produce the oxygen. Each generator feeds a group of 2, 3, or 4 masks.
Generators and masks are in containers above the passenger seats, in the lavatories, in each galley
 , and at each cabin crew station.

The cabin’s fixed oxygen system supplies oxygen to the occupants, in case of cabin
depressurization.
The system stores its oxygen in interconnected cylinders (6, plus up to 2 additional), located on the
right-hand-side, in the aft cargo compartment. The oxygen goes to the mask containers in the cabin,
via two main supply lines and a network of pipes.
The containers are above the passenger seats, in the lavatories, at each cabin crew station and
galley area. Each container has 2, 3, 4, or 5 masks. An altimetric flow regulation device centrally
controls the flow rate. The Quantity Calculation and Control Unit (QCCU) supplies the value of the
average, temperature-compensated pressure indicated on the PASSENGER OXYGEN panel, on the
overhead panel.
OPERATION
Applicable to:
Each container has an electrical latching mechanism that automatically opens to allow the masks to
drop, if the cabin pressure altitude exceeds 14 000 ft (+0, –500 ft).
Flight crewmembers can override the automatic control.
When the masks are released, the passenger address system automatically broadcasts prerecorded
instructions for their use.
The generation of oxygen begins when the passenger pulls the mask towards the passenger seat.
The chemical reaction used for oxygen generation creates heat. Therefore, the smell of burning or
smoke, and cabin temperature increase, may be associated with the normal operation of the oxygen
generators. The mask receives pure oxygen under positive pressure for about 13 min, until the
generator is exhausted.

A reset is available for the rearming of the system after the masks are restowed. A manual release
tool allows crewmembers to manually open the doors in case of electrical failure.

OPERATION
Applicable to:
Normally, the system is unpressurized. A pneumatically-controlled bleed ventilation valve releases
any residual pressure. Each container has a pneumatical latching mechanism that automatically
opens to allow the masks to drop, if the cabin pressure altitude exceeds 14 000 ft (+0, –500 ft), or
16 000 ft (+0, – 500 ft ) for the operation on high altitude airfields.
Flight crewmembers can override the automatic control.
When the masks are released, the passenger address system automatically broadcasts prerecorded
instructions for their use.
Oxygen supply begins when the passenger pulls the mask towards the passenger seat. The mask
receives pure oxygen, under positive pressure, at a rate governed by the cabin pressure altitude and
a central flow regulating device. The length of time that the oxygen supply will last, after the cabin
