4-12-00: FIRE: ENGINE/APU/ELECTRICAL/AIRCRAFT
4-12-10: Engine Fire:
The important action for controlling an engine fire is to shut the affected engine down and
shutoff the combustible fluids as quickly as possible.
For an engine fire warning (Red ENG FIRE LOOP ALRT with warning tone, accompanied by
Fire Handle Red Lights ON, and lights in the associated HP Fuel Cock), proceed as follows:
1. Warning Tone ............................................................................................................SILENCE
2. Power Lever...................................................................................................................... IDLE
NOTE: Verify proper engine (Left or Right).
If the fire warning light extinguishes with the power lever at idle, test fire warning system. If
system tests satisfactory and other engine parameters are normal, there is no need to shut down
the engine. Select engine bleed air OFF on affected engine. Open isolation valve. Maintain FL
410 or below.
If the fire warning light remains illuminated with the power lever at idle, proceed to Step 3.
3. Corresponding HP FUEL COCK ....................................................................................SHUT
4. Fire Handle ...................................................................................................................... PULL
5. Fire Extinguisher ...........................................................DISCH 1, (Turn to Extreme Position)
If the fire warnings extinguish, test the associated fire warning system. If fire warning messages
test satisfactorily, complete the ENGINE FAILURE/ SHUTDOWN Checklist.

illuminated for 30 seconds after firing the first fire extinguisher, proceed as follows:
6. Fire Extinguisher ...........................................................DISCH 2, (Turn to Extreme Position)
7. ENGINE FAILURE/SHUTDOWN Checklist......................................................COMPLETE
WARNING: ENGINE MUST NOT BE RESTARTED AFTER A FIRE WARNING;
THE FIRE HANDLE MUST NOT BE PUSHED IN.
CAUTION: ABOVE PROCEDURE MUST NOT BE USED FOR IN-FLIGHT TRAINING;
SHUTTING DOWN AN ENGINE BY MEANS OF THE FIRE HANDLE MAY
LEAD TO ENGINE COMPONENT DAMAGE AND VIBRATION.
