FUEL RETURN VALVE
The FRV selects three levels of returning fuel flow, depending on the engine oil temperature (TEO).
-
Zero flow.
-
Low flow.
-
High flow.
In case of failure of the TEO sensor, FRV positioning cannot be calculated based on the sensor. In this case, a default value for the oil is set ( 178°C) and the FRV opens.
Zero flow condition.
De-energized, solenoid valve V1, which is spring-loaded in the closed position, closes the high pressure supply line (PSF) to the shut-off valve.
Solenoid valve V2, spring-loaded in the closed position, closes the high pressure supply line (PSF) to the pilot valve.
Hot fuel from the IDG oil cooler goes to:
-The spring-loaded pilot valve, where it stops.
- The mixing chamber, to be mixed with cold fuel from the low pressure stage of the engine fuel pump.
-The compensating valve, which changes the fuel flow outlet, depending on the hot/cold fuel differential pressure,
The mixed flow then enters into the flow control valve.
The cold fuel pressure is applied to the valve head side, which is pushed against the spring. In this position, the valve partially closes the outlet port.
Fuel then goes to the shut-off valve, which is closed through the pressure of the spring force.
Since there is no way for the fuel to exit to the A/C circuit, the fuel is returned to the main oil/fuel heat exchanger.
