(c)
Tester grounding cable, banana plug to alligator clip

(d)
 Approved engine oil

(e)
Container, 6-gallon capacity for oil

(2)  Prepare Oil Quantity Indicating System for Adjustment
(a)
Open the left cowl panel (Ref 71-11-11 R/I).

(b)
Put a container under the oil tank drain valve. Open the oil tank drain valve and allow oil to drain for 5 minutes. Close drain valve.

(c)
If engine has been shut down for more than 30 minutes, put a container under the engine gearbox and remove the engine gearbox drain plugs to assure complete drainage. Replace plugs and lockwire after draining.

(d)
Pull circuit breaker C-280 or C281 on the P6 Load Control Panel to remove power from the oil quantity system to be adjusted. Turn panel lighting OFF.

(e)
Turn the PSD60-1 tester on and allow it to warm up for 3 minutes.

(f)
Connect the tester CHASSIS jack to a good airframe ground (seat rail) using the grounding cable provided with the tester. Verify that the banana plugs and the coaxial BNC connector on the box at the center of the PSD40-503 "T" cable are connected.

(g)
Remove the indicator for the tank to be calibrated from the panel. Disconnect the aircraft wiring plug from the indicator.

(h)
Connect the PSD40-503 "T" cable to the wiring plug and the indicator. Connect the "T" cable coaxial lead marked "H" to the tester terminal marked INDICATOR-HIZ. Connect the "T" cable lead marked "T" to INDICATOR-LOZ, and the lead marked "C" to INDICATOR-COMP.

(i)
Select MEASURE INT on the FUNCT switch of the tester. Select COMP with the SELECT switch. Adjust COMP SIMULATOR knob on the tester to read 108.8 pf on the LCD display. This is the nominal capacitance for a full tank.

(j)
Change the SELECT switch to the TU position. Adjust the TU SIMULATOR knob to read 22.3 pf on the LCD display. This is the nominal capacitance for an empty tank.

(k)
Switch the FUNCT switch to AIRCRAFT ONLY position. This will disconnect the tester from the oil quantity indicating circuit.

(3)  Adjust the oil quantity indicating system EMPTY and FULL.
(a)
Close the circuit breaker on the P6 Load Control Panel to provide power to the oil quantity indicator.

(b)
Adjust the screw marked "E" on the back of the oil quantity indicator until the pointer reads 0 gallons. Press the OIL QTY TEST switch on the center instruments panel momentarily and release. Readjust the screw if it is necessary to make the pointer read 0 gallons.

(c)
If the pointer does not move in a downscale direction when the OIL QTY TEST switch is pressed, troubleshoot the system (Ref\79-31-0, page 101).

(d)
Disconnect the two banana plugs and one BNC coaxial lead from the box in the center of the "T" cable. This disconnects the wiring to the tank.

(e)
Switch the tester FUNCT switch to SIM TU & COMP position.

(f)
Adjust the TU SIMULATOR knob on the tester to cause the indicator to read 0 gallons. Press and release the OIL QTY TEST switch. Readjust the vernier to read 0 gallons.

(g)
Switch the tester FUNCT switch back to AIRCRAFT ONLY position. Reconnect the two banana plugs and the BNC coaxial lead to the box in the center of the "T" cable. This reconnects the tank unit to the indicator.

CAUTION:  DO NOT ADJUST THE COMP SIMULATOR. ADJUSTING THE COMP SIMULATOR CAN CAUSE THE INDICATOR TO SHOW THE WRONG OIL QUANTITY.

(h)
Add 4.8 U.S. gallons of oil to the tank.

CAUTION:  EITHER HYDROCARBON OR SYNTHETIC ENGINE OILS MAY BE USED IN THE JT8D ENGINE, BUT THE OILS MAY NOT BE MIXED PER PRATT & WHITNEY STANDARDS. IF OILS WHICH ARE NOT COMPATIBLE ARE MIXED, THEY CAN REACT AND CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.

(i)
Adjust the screw marked "F" on the back of the indicator until the pointer reads 3.5 gallons. Press the OIL QTY TEST switch momentarily and release. Readjust the "F" screw if it is necessary to return the pointer to 3.5 gallons.
