2L, 3L, 4L, 5L Displays the phone number and its ident. When pressed, dials the
number.
6L Sorts the phone numbers within a category in alphanumeric order by their
ident.
1R Displays the current selected SATCOM channel.
2R, 3R, 4R Displays the priority level allocated for each phone number.

1L, 2L, 3L, 4L, 5L These fields display the phone numbers and their titles.
When pressed, they dial the corresponding phone number.
There are two types of numbers :
‐ Protected: Displayed in green.
‐ Unprotect:ed Displayed in blue brackets.
1R This field displays the selected SATCOM channel.
4R This function alphabetically sorts the phone numbers, within the category,
by title.
5R This function automatically searches for a phone number from the
beginning of this category, by entering up to the first three letters of the
title into the scratchpad, and by pressing 5R.
6L This key is used to return to the SATCOM DIRECTORY page.

SATCOM MANUAL DIAL PAGE
The MANUAL DIAL PAGE enables the crew to initiate an air to ground call by manually entering a
phone number.
2L (data line) This field displays the phone number in blue brackets, after having been
entered in the scratchpad.
4L This field displays the selected SATCOM channel.
5L This field displays the priority for the manual dial number. The priority can be
changed by pressing the slew up or down keys on the MCDU keyboard.
6L This key is used to return to the SATCOM MAIN MENU page.

GENERAL

The Broadband System provides broadband connectivity through a satellite communications link.
If offers full real-time access to the internet and enables access to personal email. It is a wireless
system, which communicates through an airborne Local Area Network (LAN) and satellite services.
The system is powered via two circuit breakers located on the Circuit Breaker Panel, in the forward
cabin ceiling aft of the cockpit. The circuit breakers are labeled “CBB” for main power and “CBB CTL”
for the Broadband System Controls.
The LAN consists of 5 antennas, or Cabin Wireless LAN Units (CWLU's) and a server, evenly
distributed throughout the cabin. The signals are relayed between the CWLU's and a separate
SATCOM antenna via the Network Server and a Data Transceiver/Router. These units are located in
the avionics compartment.
The separate SATCOM antenna, mounted on top of the aircraft fuselage above the door 3 area,
locks on to a signal relayed from a geosynchronous satellite, which relays transmissions to and from
the aircraft.
The Broadband System monitors the aircraft weight on wheel switches. The system will restrict
broadband transmission when below approximately 10,000 ft and while on ground. A manual
override is provided via the XMT GND pushbutton on the control panel. This is intended for
maintenance use only.
The system is controlled via the control panel in the cockpit or the Cabin Power Indicator Panel in
the Video Control Center, VCC. The system can also be switched off by setting the COMMERCIAL
switch to OFF.
