CI.LAPTER 5. EIELICOPTER COhIMUNICBTION
AND NAVIGATION EQUIPNIENT
5.1 Communication equipment
5.1.1 A helicopter shall bc providcd with radio communication
equipment capablc of:
a) conducting two-way cormnunication for heliport control
purposes;
b) receiving meteorological information at any time during
flight:
c) conducting two-way communication at any time during
flight with at least one aeronautical station and with
such other aeronautical stations and on such frequencies
as may he prescribed by the appropriate authority.
Note.- The requir-ernenis of 5.1. I nre considered fulfilled
if the ability to cond~rcl the communicntior~s specfied therein
is established cluring radio propllgnfion corldirio~lw.~hi ch ore
nonnal for the route.
5.1.2 The radio communicalic~n equipment required in
accordauce w it11 5.1.1 shall provide fm comnl~ii~ication01s1 the
aeronautical emergency frequency 121.5 .MHz.
5.2 Navigation equipment
5.2.1 A helicoprcr shall he provided wilh navigatii~n
cq~ipmenwt hich will enable it to proccccl:
a) in accordance wilh its operational fligh: plan; and
b) in accorclance wi1l.1 thc requirements of air traffic
services:
except when, if not so precluded by the appropriate authority,
rlai~igation for flights undcr the visual flight rules IS
accomplished by visual reference LO landmarks
5.2.2 For flights in defined por~ions crf airspace or on
routes where an RNP type has been prescribed, a helicopter
shall, in addition to the requirements specified in 5.2.1:
a) be provided with navigation equipment which will
enable it to operate in accordance with the prescrilled
FST type(s); and
b) be authorized by the State of the Opcrator for operations
in such airspace.

5.2.3 The helicopter shall be sufficiently providcd with
navigation equipment to ensure (hat, in the event of the failurc
of one item of equipment at any stage of the flight, the
remaining equipment will enablc the helicopter to llavigate in
accordance with 5.2.1 and. ivhere applicable, 5.1.2.
5.2.4 On flights in ~ ~ l i cith i s intended to land in
inshument meteorological conditions a helicopter shall he
provided wilih radio equipment capablc of rcccivi~~sgig nals
providii~g guidance LC) a point frem which a visual landing can
be effected. This equipment sh211 be capable of providing such

5.3 Installation
The equipmeni inslallarion shall bc such that llle failure of any
single unit required for either colmunications or navigatinn
purposcs or both will not result in the Iailure of auothcr unit
required for corr~municationso r ilavigation pwposes.

5.1 Communication equipment

instrument flight rules or a1 night shall be provided with radio
communication equipment. Such equipment shall be capable
of conducting two-way communication wit11 those aeronautical
stations and on those frequencies prescribed by the appropriate
authority.
Note.- The requirenlents qf 5.1.1 are considered fulfilled
f the ability to conduct the communicntions spec~fifiedtl zerein
is established during radio propagation contlitions which are
normal for the route.
