Historical background Shtus uT Annex cumponents
Annex 7 contains Standards adopted by the Iuternational Civil
Aviation Organization as the minimum Standards for the
display of marks to indicate appropriate nationality and
regstration which have been determined to conlply with
Article 20 of the Convention. Standards for Aircraft
Nationality and Registration Marks were rnst adopted by the
Council on S February 1949 pursuant to the provisions o%
W c l e 37 of the Convention on International Civil Aviation
(Chicago 1954) and designated as Annex 7 to the Convention.
They became effective on 1 July 1949. The Standards were
based on recommendations of the first and second sessions of
the Airworthiness Division held respectively in March 1946
and Pcbxuaxy 1947.
Table A shows the origin of subsequcnt amendments
together with a list of the principal subjects ilivolvcd and the
dates on which the hnnex and the amendments were adopted
by the Council, when they became effective and when they
became applicable.
Action by Contracting States
Notijkation of differences. The attention of Contracting States
is drawn to tlle obligation imposed by Article 38 of the
Convention by which Contracting States are required to notify
the Organization of any differences between lheir nalional
regulations and practices and the International Standards
contained in this Annex and any amendments thereto. Furtller.
Contracting States are invited to keep the Organization
currently informed of any differences which may subsequently
occur, or of thc witlidrawal of any differences previously
notified. /I specific request for notification of di.fferences will
be sent to Conkacting States immediately after the adoption of
each amendment to chis Annex.
The attention of States is also drawn to the provisions of
Annex 15 related to the publication of differences between
their national regulations and practices and the related ICAO
Standards and Recommended Practices tlxoogh the Aeronautical
information Service, in addition to the obligation of
States under Article 35 of the Convention.

with the Standards specdied in this Annex should be not~fied
and take effect in accordance with the provisions of Annex 15.
An Annex is made up of the following component parts, not all
of which, however, are necessarily found jn every Annex; they
have the status indicated:
1 .- Material comprising the Annex proper
a) Standards and Recommended Practices adoptcd by
the Council under the provisions oE the Convention.
They are defined as follows:
