4 10.1 Exccpt as provided for in 4.10.2, until 1 January 2005
all Perfommcc Class I and 2 helicopters operating on flights
over water its described In 4.3.1 a) and Performance Class 3
helicopters operating as described in 4.3.1 b) shall be equippcd
with at least one ELT(S) per raft carried but not more lhan d total
of two ELTs are required.
4.10.2 Performance Class 1 and 2 helicopters fpr which
the individual certificate of airworthiness is first issJed after
1 January 2002, operating on flights over water asde6ciibe.d in
4.3.1 a) and Performance Class 3 helicopters for which the
individual certificate of airworthiness is first issued after
1 January 2002, operating as described in 4.3.1 b) shall be
equipped with at least one automatic ELT and one ELT(S) in
a raft.
4.10.3 From I January 2005, all Performance Class 1 and
2 helicopters operating on flights over water as described in
4.3.1 a) and Performance Class 3 helicopters operating as
described in 4.3.1 b) shall be equipped with at least one
automatic ELT and one ELT(S) in a raft.
4.10.4 Except as provided for in 4.10.5, until 1 January 2005
helicopters on flights over designated land areas as described in
4.4. shall be equipped with at least one ELT.
4.10.5 Helicopters for which the individual certificate of
airworthiness is first issued after 1 January 2002, on flights
over designated land areas as described in 4.4 shall be
equipped with at least onc automaric ELT.
4.10.6 From 1 January 2005, helicopters on flights over
designated land areas as described in 4.4 shall be equipped
with at least one aulomatic ELT.
4.10.7 Recommendation.- Ail helicopters should carry
nn al,itomatic ELI
4.10.8 ELT equipment carried to satisfy thc rsquir~ments
of 4.10.1, 4.10.2, 4.10.3, 4.10.4, 4.10.5, 4.10.6 and 4.10.7
shall operate in accordance with the relevanl provisions of
Annex 10, Volume III.

4.11 Helicopters required to be
equipped with a pressure-altitude
reporting transponder
4.1 1.1 From 1 January 2003, unless exempted by the
appropriate aulhorities, all helicopters shall be equ~pped with
a pressure-ahiiude reporting transponder which operates in
accordance with the relevant provisions of Annex lo7
Volume IV.
4.1 1.2 Recornmendation.- All helicopters should be
equipped with a pressiire-altitude reporting fnrzsponder ~vhiclc
operates in accordance wilh rile rele~an,ptr ovisions qf Attnex 10,
Volunte IV
Note.- The provisions in 4.11.1 and 4.1 1.2 are intended to
slipport the ~ffectiveness of ACAS as well us to improve
efsectiveness of air truffic senlices. Efecrive dates for carriage
requirenzents of ACAS sre contained in Anne.~6 , Part I, 6.18.1
and 6. I8.2. T/zc intent is also for aircrufi nor eqttlpped n~ir/t
pressure-altitude rzporting trarzsporiders to be operated so as
rrot to slzure airspace used by aircr-aft equipped with airborrze
collision uvoidari.ce systems. To this crzd, e.~enlptions from the
carriage requirement for pressure-altittlde reporting transponders
could be giverz by desigrzatirlg airspace where such
crr~riuge is not required.
4.12 Microphones
Recommendation.- All~flight crew members required to
be ow jligltr deck duty should communicate throligh boonz or
throat niicroplzones below the transition level/altititde.
CHAPTER 5. HELICOPTER COMMUNICATION
AND NAVIGATION EQUIPMENT
5.1 Communication equipment
5.1.1 A helicop~erl o be operated in accordance with the
inst~umentf ligh~ru les or at night shall be provided with radio
communication equipment. Such equipment shall be capable
of conducting two-way communication with those aeronautical
stations and on those frequencies prescribed by the appropriate
authority-
Note.- The rcquirrnzents of 5.1.1 are considered fulfilled
if the ability to condldct the co~nrn~nicationssp ecified therein
is estahlislted during radio propagation conditions lvlzich are
rzorrnal fur the route.
5.1.2 When compliance with 5.1.1 requircs lhat more
than one communication equipment unit be provided, each
